Reporting On Bias

Before the AP article on lying by the Bushies to get us into war, and the inevitable, idiotic Republican smear of invoking “Soros” as a universal panacea against the evil eye, cuckolding and shooting people in the face, I direct your attention to the following piece of biased, unprofessional “real” journalism, courtesy of Ron Fournier of the Associated Press, who would, at this level of suffering and dementia, be put down as a gesture of mercy, were he a dog and not merely a blind hack:

ON DEADLINE: Democrats not inevitable
By RON FOURNIER, Associated Press Writer
Tue Jan 22, 1:12 PM ET

WASHINGTON – They say this will be a “Democratic year.” Many pundits predict that Republicans will lose the White House because President Bush is unpopular, the economy is in a tailspin, the Iraq war is unabated and a plurality of voters identify themselves as Democrats.

This is silly talk. The truth is that if Democrats do win the White House, it won’t be because of voters’ generic impressions of the two parties. It will be because the Democratic nominee — most likely Hillary Clinton or Barack Obama — proved to be a better candidate than the GOP nominee.

And that’s not a given. Democrats could just as easily lose the presidential race as win it.

The latest evidence in the case against Democratic inevitability came Tuesday night in a raucous debate that brought out the worst in both Clinton and Obama. Republican strategists could use the transcript to write their talking points for the fall election: Liberal, corrupt, evasive, hypocritical and soft on security….

Well, whatever his “analysis” is, credibility kind of finds itself lacking in his “analysis” of the debate, not for his “reasoning” but for his omission. Not once, not ONCE in the screed of his “opinion” does the word “Edwards” appear.

And, while this intentional quasi-Stalinist “purge” of Edwards from the political landscape is the RULE and not the exception of this year’s vicious, arrogant attempts by the “press” at king-making, it utterly negates any credibility that Fournier might have in writing his “article.” If he was a cat at a shelter, we’d stick him in the pressure chamber and suck his little lungs out before disposing of the remains as biohazard material. Even the truncated Yahoo caption of the photo (showing all THREE debate candidates, and, again, significantly, Dennis Kucinich has been physically ejected from the presidential race, as in Iowa) inadvertently seconds the notion of a Soviet-style purge of Edwards from the race:

“Democratic presidential candidates Senator Hillary Clinton (D-NY) (L), Senator Barack Obama (D-IL) (C) and former…”

Edwards is pictured, but, as in Fournier’s “analysis” truncated out of existence. Has America ever witnessed such an arrogant and blatant attempt by the media to expunge, incinerate, obliterate, erase and “vanish” a major candidate for the presidency?

Edwards is rapidly becoming an American political version of los desaparecidos.

[Or, perhaps Fournier is still bitter about making an ass of himself over the never-launched 2006 hotsoup.com political "social networking" website.]

And now we turn our attention to this, from AP, today:

Study: False statements preceded war
By DOUGLASS K. DANIEL, Associated Press Writer
2 hours, 14 minutes ago [NOTE: it's currently 6:15 AM PST]

WASHINGTON – A study by two nonprofit journalism organizations found that President Bush and top administration officials issued hundreds of false statements about the national security threat from Iraq in the two years following the 2001 terrorist attacks.

The study concluded that the statements “were part of an orchestrated campaign that effectively galvanized public opinion and, in the process, led the nation to war under decidedly false pretenses.”

The study was posted Tuesday on the Web site of the Center for Public Integrity, which worked with the Fund for Independence in Journalism.

White House spokesman Scott Stanzel did not comment on the merits of the study Tuesday night but reiterated the administration’s position that the world community viewed Iraq’s leader, Saddam Hussein, as a threat.

“The actions taken in 2003 were based on the collective judgment of intelligence agencies around the world,” Stanzel said.

The study counted 935 false statements in the two-year period. It found that in speeches, briefings, interviews and other venues, Bush and administration officials stated unequivocally on at least 532 occasions that Iraq had weapons of mass destruction or was trying to produce or obtain them or had links to al-Qaida or both….

Can you say “George Soros”? I ask because that was what Howie Rich and his band of thugs screeched when the Center for Public Integrity covered his sub-rosa machinations in the 2006 elections. An Americans for Limited Government press release* screeched that GEORGE SOROS had funded CPI (which later won several journalism awards for that selfsame coverage).

[* The release, since removed from the ALG website:

GEORGE SOROS-FUNDED FRONT GROUP LAUNCHES DEFAMATION CAMPAIGN AGAINST ALG
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
October 26, 2006

Ironically-named “Center for Public Integrity” makes false, desperate claims in order to block protections for homes, businesses, and churches across the country

Chicago, IL--Yesterday, a George Soros-funded front group sank to new lows by launching a desperate attack on Americans for Limited Government, a group that supports movements to protect property rights across the country.

On its website, the ironically-named Center for Public Integrity (CPI)—a thinly-veiled, radical left attack machine—claims that ALG has been operating “illegally” for late renewal of a license. Unfortunately for CPI, however, ALG was never required to have the license they refer to in the first place.

“They might as well have accused us of not renewing our underwater basket-weaving license,” said John Tillman, President of Americans for Limited Government. “That’s how ridiculous this attack is. For people who are desperate to distract from the issues, however, it’s par for the course.” ...]

So, there was no doubt that this tired old fallacy would be exhumed by desperate Twenty-five Percenters, and, sure enough, it’s already been memed [when I began this blog a few minutes ago, NONE of these "blue blood red bloggers" was up on Memeorandum yet. Now they ALL are, seemingly. Do we detect the scent of raw desperation? Are they afraid that Bush might finally be called to account for his (admitted) crimes?]:

MSM tools spread Soros propaganda
By Michelle Malkin • January 23, 2008 09:46 AM

(photoshopped illustration: 1sorosevil.jpg)

The right side of the blogosphere is all over the clueless media coverage of a new “study” and database compiled by “two nonprofit journalism organizations” that purports to show that BUSH LIED to entice American (sic) into Iraq. You would think by now that the MSM would try to spare itself some embarrassment and at least do a cursory Google search before casting the researchers as neutral, reliable, disinterested parties. But noooo. They dutifully published these transparent moonbat briefs for impeachment without disclosing the “nonprofit journalism organizations’” ties to BDS sugar daddy George Soros.

Anti-Bush Regime Shocker!…

A George Soros-funded journalism organization slammed the Bush Administration today for “lies” on Iraq! (But, for some reason the group curiously omitted the Clinton Administration’s lies?)

A left wing group that has received hundreds of thousands of dollars from George Soros slammed the Bush regime today for lies on Iraq.

The fact that these groups are funded by George Soros was omitted from today’s report- a fine example of media corruption.

The AP reported: [NB: see article above - HW]The New York Times is also reporting this left wing study today but sadly they also exclude how many times Bill and Hillary Clinton misled the public with false Iraq statements. [NB: The howler of the day. Clinton never invaded Iraq, so the point is entirely moot -HW]

The Center for Public Integrity has received hundreds of thousands of dollars from anti-Bush philanthropist [George Soros] … [Yes, and Hitler maintained that 2+2=4 -- HW]

[...] We all look forward to the follow-up study that includes the Clinton years and their lies on Iraq.

Jules Crittenden notices the reaction from the Bush-hating Kool-Aid drinkers.

  • Crittenden (allegedly a journalist) cites and links back to Gateway Pundit, BTW, adding to the circle jerk. (Funny, how all these rightie blogs manage to have the same talking points up and link to each other within hours of the story. You’d think that such original thinkers would see different aspects of the same elephant, but, oddly, unlike famed blind men of yore, they ALWAYS see the same thing):

“I dispute that! But I’m not going to waste any time arguing the points all over again. Next thing you know, we’ll be in a debate over whether Bush is president or not. More to the point, do these august wanktanks have nothing better to do? Somebody tell them it’s over. Saddam Hussein will never have (any more) WMD or (any more) meaningful ties with al-Qaeda. Next order of business, Iran. It looks like, thanks in part to the latest intelligence miscalculation, Bush isn’t likely to be acting forcefully on that threat to Mideast and world peace in what remains of our national nightmare.” [Refuting the argument by claiming it's too absurd to even consider. A wan and pallid fallacy from a formerly emphatic and robust liar, sad to say. HW]

George Soros Funded Study Says Bush Lied

The AP reports, and the New York Times expands, on a new study by a supposedly “independent” organization that claims to have assembled hundred of “false statements” by the Bush administration in the course of the Iraq war. However, the Center for Public Integrity hardly qualifies as “independent”. It gets much of its funding from George Soros, who has thrown millions of dollars behind Democratic political candidates, and explicitly campaigned to defeat George Bush in 2004:

A study by two nonprofit journalism organizations found that President Bush and top administration officials issued hundreds of false statements about the national security threat from Iraq in the two years following the 2001 terrorist attacks.

Nowhere in these articles do either news organization bother to inform their reader of the partisan nature of the CPI. Besides Soros, it gets financing from the Streisand Foundation, the Ford Foundation, and the Los Angeles Times Foundation. The FIJ shares most of its board members with the CPI, which hardly makes it a separate entity in terms of its political direction.

Dafydd at Big Lizards does a good job of pulling apart the supposed quotes that CPI used to blow some hot air into the limp “Bush lied” meme, but even the New York Times wasn’t impressed:

There is no startling new information in the archive, because all the documents have been published previously. But the new computer tool is remarkable for its scope, and its replay of the crescendo of statements that led to the war. Muckrakers may find browsing the site reminiscent of what Richard M. Nixon used to dismissively call “wallowing in Watergate.”

In fact, there is nothing new in this site that hasn’t already been picked apart by the blogosphere, and some of it discredited. It includes the debunked charge that Bush lied in the “sixteen words” of the 2003 State of the Union address. Joe Wilson’s own report to the CIA and to the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence confirmed that, at least according to Niger’s Prime Minister, Iraq had sought to trade for uranium in 1999. The CPI site has the sixteen words posted as one of their false statements.

Let’s boil this down. An organization funded by known political activists puts up a website with shopworn quotes taken mostly out of context and misrepresented — and this somehow qualifies as news?

Hey, AP. I’ll be posting a couple of essays today. I’ll be sure to look for your breathless report on the wires later this afternoon.

Well, no one will ever accuse the Captain of being a great debater or other than a so-so wit.

  • Everybody’s favorite Carolinian Airhead, Sister Toldjah, pushes the flaccid meme, too. [AMAZING how they ALL came up with the same smokescreen fallacy isn't it? I hope the fax machine in the West Wing isn't smoking from all the sudden overuse.]:

In news reports today, two media-described “nonprofit journalism organizations” who claim that they’ve compiled “hundreds” of false statements that the Bush administration supposedly made as justification for the Iraq war were funded with the help of Bush-hater George Soros, something the mediots conveniently left out. I don’t have time to go into detail right now (another busy day ahead), but Gateway Pundit’s got it covered here. Read more via the Captain. What was that the left keeps telling us about there being “no liberal bias” in the media, again? (sic)

Lies, Misrepresentations and More Left-Wing Extremist Propaganda
By California Yankee

Associated Press writer, Douglas Daniel has written an article promoting more lies, misrepresentations, and left-wing extremist propaganda trying to revive the loony left’s thoroughly debunked fiction that we were “misled” into war in Iraq by “false statements” and “lies.”

On Yahoo the Douglas article is titled “Study: False statements preceded war.” But CBS News, the ever accurate former employer of Dan Rather, originally carried the article under the headline “Study: 2 Years Of Lies Led To Iraq War. That was too much even for the President Bush hating propagandists at CBS, who toned it down to “Study: ‘False Pretenses’ Led U.S. To War.” (all sic)

I am so very tired of this propaganda.*

Me, too, you lying sonofabitch. Me too.

Courage.

[* Astonishing lack of any sense of crushing irony, ain't it?]

UPDATE — 9 AM PST: The Rightie blogswarm continues to grow. And Butt Plug Bob is on the case (having dragged himself from his obsessive-compulsive distorting/”reporting” on the Beauchamp Case.) In typical megalomaniac manner, he writes, with excruciating irony:

… the criteria established for the study seems to indicate that the data is loaded and crafted to achieve a desired result.

I’ve not yet had a chance to read the report and get any sense of the validity of the claims made, but it promises to be an interesting read. (sic)
