Back From Philly

The trip itself was great, but the flight back to Eugene was a series of airline nightmares. Nothing much worth writing about, but just managed to make the connecting flight to Portland after Delta assured us that the flight from Philadelphia to Cincinnati (one of Delta’s three US hubs, the other two being Atlanta and Salt Lake City) was on time. Right up until it suddenly vanished from the Gate 12 screens and was replaced by a flight to Boston that was, again, allegedly on time.

The Ghost of Jerry Garcia at Independence Hall

Actually took a puddle-jumper that they rolled STEPS up to the gate, and then we had to walk across the TARMAC to several steep, built-in steps to get on the jet. I can’t remember the last time I actually used stairs to enter a plane directly FROM the tarmac. Thirty years?

The pilot assured us that it was a NEW plane. Perhaps it was. We took off almost exactly an hour late. Got into Cincinnati, connecting gate is the furthest part of the airport away. They were already boarding and had called my “zone” before I even got to the gate. Etcetera.

Many things to write about, but I’m sore and jet-lagged and dead tired. I’m still on Philly time, which means that my BODY thinks it’s 1:30 AM tomorrow.

More tomorrow.

Sleep tonight.

Courage.
