Sunday Night Roundup

Well, it looks like here’s where McCain Blogmeister Michael Goldfarb earns his gruel.

Take a look at Memeorandum tonight.

They’re lining up, the Usual Suspects, the Beauchamp Assassins to refute one story as laughable, and push another as crucial. Funny how it’s always the same Rightie bloggers on the same story and not, as with the Lefties, scattered all over the map.

They surely do goosestep purty, don’t they?

Pushing the meme that Obama “pals around with terrorists,” they scream on the one hand that Palin’s RIGHT, and nobody better dispute it …

CNN — Fact Check: Is Obama palling around with terrorists?

and on the other hand that a SINGLE AP article,

Douglass K. Daniel / Associated Press:
Analysis: Palin’s words carry racial tinge … WASHINGTON (AP) – By claiming that Democrat Barack Obama is “palling around with terrorists” and doesn’t see the U.S. like other Americans, vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin targeted key goals for a faltering campaign.

Can’t possibly be true, SO SHUT UP!

Can’t have THAT!

Both are classical Rovian/Nixonian attacks on the press. Both are coordinated, and the arguments are identically identical.

As usual, the Lefties are freelancing and offer only a sporadic front of resistance. Welcome to the rest of the election.

Yes, Rove’s Little Brownshirts only await Kristol-nacht to wreak their cons of destruction. A couple of days from now, you’ll be reading about it all, as the press has been tricked, conned, bullied, etcetera into the phony William Ayers/Weatherman story. Guilt by Free Association, I guess. Anyone you’ve ever known in your life is the same as your having BEEN them.

Yes, the Beauchamp Brigands of the Snarking Keyboard rise to the battle, with only one month to go in their quest to trick America into voting for the same team that’s screwed everything up so brilliantly.

But there was another piece of the puzzle I didn’t know until I read Rolling Stone‘s devastating takedown of John McCain, “Make Believe Maverick” which notes that McCain made a personal alliance with William Kristol, Goldfarb’s boss at both Murdoch’s $1 million plus a year money-loser, The Weekly Standard, AND at the Partnership for a New America: [emphasis added]

McCain used to believe passionately in the limits of American military power. In 1993, he railed against Clinton’s involvement in Somalia, sponsoring an amendment to cut off funds for the troops. The following year he blasted the idealistic aims of sending U.S. troops to Haiti, taking to the Senate floor to propose an immediate withdrawal. He even started out a fierce opponent of NATO air strikes on Serbia during the war in the Balkans.

But such concerns went out the window when McCain began gearing up to run for president. In 1998, he formed a political alliance with William Kristol, editor of the neoconservative Weekly Standard, who became one of his closest advisers.

What else? Oh:

McCain’s chief economic advisor, Phil Gramm is hugely to blame for the credit crunch, see this Washington Post article.

And the new October meme being pushed in newsgroups by Republican trolls is a redux of EXACTLY the same stunt they pulled on Kerry in 2004. The phony push-poll,

http://www.barackobamatest.com/

Last time, it was:

Take this poll: BuskKerrytest.com!!!

http://www.bushkerrytest.com/

After you take to poll the results for each question are at the end. I found this at Roll Call’s website!

I’ve linked to the OLD webpage in the Wayback Machine. If you use the ‘correct’ URL, you get a junk news dead domain page.

Those responsible for it, you might like to know, are the NUMBER NINE top corporate contributor — all parties — according to OpenSecrets dot org, who track campaign donations:

[Number 9 overall corporate cash contributor, 100% to Republicans:]

#9     PM Consulting           $182,980         0%       100%

They rolled THAT 2004 one out in early October, too. From Goliath:

Here’s the web ownership stuff from WHOIS query.

I note this because it’s popped up in DailyKos, on the Oregon Rural Organizing Project board, Democratic Underground and other places. I never bother with those kinds of polls (and this one is filled with trick questions, like the last one), but it seemed worthwhile to get this information out there so that it doesn’t spread. Old dogs; old tricks.

As Homer said in the Iliad, I think: Beware of GOP Trolls bearing URLs.

Finally, it ought to be noted that the banks are melting down in Europe, too. Iceland is being crushed under a debt load seven times their GNP, and bailouts and buyouts are prevalent everywhere. The Japanese stock market just lost 3.4% of its value, and the Korean market lost 4%.

If you think that last week’s bailout was the end of it, think again. No one knows how widespread and devastating the collapse is, but, trust me, it’s more widespread and more devastating than we’d like to even consider. Which is why it’s barely getting reported. [NOTE: See update below]

As I’ve told you before: (presciently, as it turns out) the more desperately we need the financial truth, the less likely the financial press is to provide it. If they say “crash” and it crashes, they get blamed. If they say “crash” and it doesn’t crash, they become laughing stocks. So, they say nothing, print happy news, and sin by conscious omission.

That’s the tradition.

Today was the Catholic Red Mass, preceding tomorrow’s First Monday in October  new United States Supreme Court term. I’ve covered it before, HERE and HERE and HERE and I’ll cover it again. Here’s a picture to scare the sweet beejeezis out of you in the meantime:
