Barbiegate™ Casts Pall Over Election

Whoever Paul is.

Gov. Sarah Palin of Alaskaruh-roh

It seems astonishing that, on the same day, both Alaskans in the news would use, essentially, the same rationalization.

From Faux Nooz™:

Politico said a McCain spokeswoman declined to answer specific questions about the expenditures, saying “the campaign does not comment on strategic decisions regarding how financial resources available to the campaign are spent.”

But a top McCain campaign staff member later told FOX News, “With all of the important issues facing the country right now, its remarkable that we’re spending time talking about pantsuits and blouses. It was always the intent that the clothing go to a charitable purpose after the campaign.”

So, she BORROWED the clothes? And, therefore it’s OK? (I don’t think you can donate the underwear and stockings, though. Health laws.)

Senator Ted Stevens of Alaska, at his trial, meanwhile, offered the excuse for his massage chair of seven years’ gluteal occupancy that it wasn’t a gift, it was a loan.

I guess you call that “Ownership Society.”

Great job.

Accessorizing while Rome burns.

Here is the latest breaking news, which you should IMMEDIATELY read.

Courage.

  1. While I’d rather the RNC threw its money away on Palin clothes than strong campaigning the thing that strikes is the tone deafness of “elitism/celebrity” attacks and $150K in clothes. The disconnect between “the people” and the campaign is telling.

  2. Absolutely, Chuck.

If you think about a normal 44-year-old woman, at $150 per dress that’s 1000 dresses. Kind of hits home.

The economy is melting down and they spent $4000 on haircuts and makeup?

    Good lord.

  3. Mac McFadden

Be thankful for their foolish choices.
That’s money they could have given to Michelle Bachman.

  4. Am I the only one who thinks McCain isn’t really running his campaign? (And I also think he’s not well as in ill.) This is bizarre to say the least. BTW, I think Biden should ask Obama for a laundry allowance. I mean fair’s fair …

  5. Naw, Edison. McCain’s undoubtedly not running his campaign — or maybe now he is. He’s spent the last couple of days campaigning in states that are pretty well lost (IA, NH, CO), while cash is pulled out of them to be concentrated in states that are closer (PA, VA, FL).

Then again, it’s sort of the same rudderless dithering that’s characterized the whole campaign, so who can say?

As for a laundry allowance, Palin and Campbell Brown are complaining that there’s a double standard for women and that the $150K isn’t out of line. And I believe them, too, but that’s only because I’m astonishingly gullible.
