Andrew Breitbart — A Legend in His Own Mind

[We get e-mail dept.: (ab)Usage note | The term,  "pussy" is derived from pusillanimous, from the old Latin, and NOT from the near-universal Germanic/Celtic slang for the certain euphemized portion of the female anatomy located between the navel and the knees. See Webster's 1914 Unabridged for notes. "pusillanimous," it should also be noted, is defined by the American Heritage Dictionary of the English Language, 4th Ed. (my favorite dictionary; sorry OED) as:

pusillanimous

SYLLABICATION: pu·sil·lan·i·mous
PRONUNCIATION: pys-ln-ms
ADJECTIVE: Lacking courage; cowardly.
ETYMOLOGY: Middle English pusillanimus, from Late Latin pusillanimis : Latin pusillus, weak, diminutive of pullus, young of an animal; see pau- in Appendix I + animus, reason, mind; see an- in Appendix I.
OTHER FORMS: pusil·lani·mous·ly —ADVERB

Since there is nothing cowardly about a vagina, the Germanic/Celtic slang*  makes no sense, which is the clear indicator of the Latin origin of the term.

(* e.g. in French slang, minet - n.f. cat, pussycat; pussy (female genitalia). See. ]

2. the dumbest thug and his followers  (who would be even … uh, er, ONWARD!)

Today, or, rather, toadie, Andrew Breitbart  (self-proclaimed as “Matt Drudge’s bitch”) leads a snarling orgy of Republiklan victimhood.

It begins with the klaxon bray of his herald, the Gateway Pundit, who’s been in the Loser’s Circle a lot the past two weeks [here, and here] by virtue of his anti-stellar performances in the gray matter department:

Andrew Breitbart Batters the Abusive Obama Internet Goons

(Almost alliterative.)

Andrew Breitbart of Breitbart.com and The Drudge Report nailed the abusive Obama internet trolls and goons today in his article at The Washington Times.

Leftist trolls have been vandalizing the conservative blogosphere since conservatives started blogging but actually coordinated their attacks during the last election cycle. This same internet goon squad has persisted past Election Day. The Other McCain pointed out that in January, they were even caught trying to plant “hate” memes at Team Sarah in an effort to discredit Palin. And, of course they are willing to lie and perform deceptive acts all in the pursuit of victory and power.

This was a terrific article:

And so it begins  [emphasis added] …

BREITBART: Online activists on the right, unite!
Andrew Breitbart
Monday, March 30, 2009

ANALYSIS/OPINION:

A digital war has broken out, and the conservative movement is losing. Read the comment sections of right-leaning blogs, news sites and social forums, and the evidence is there in ugly abundance. Internet hooligans are spewing their talking points to thwart the dissent of the newly-out-of-power.

We must not let that go unanswered.

Uninvited Democratic activists are on a mission to demoralize the enemy – us. They want to ensure that President Obama is not subject to the same coordinated, facts-be-damned, multimedia takedown they employed over eight long years to destroy the presidency – and the humanity – of George W. Bush.

Political leftists play for keeps. They are willing to lie, perform deceptive acts in a coordinated fashion and do so in a wicked way – all in the pursuit of victory. Moral relativism is alive and well in the land of Hope and Change and its Web-savvy youth brigade expresses its “idealism” in a most cynical fashion.

The ends justify the means for them – now more than ever…

Uh, WHO are the thugs and information anarchists??

In the land of Rush, and Beck, of Hannity, of openly sneering at “liberals” — or ‘libs,’ ‘leftists,’ ‘libtards’ and other synonyms for “those wh0m we hate more than anyone else” — suddenly Breitbart and the Drudgians are the victims. Pity the poor bullies, because someone turned around — out of the blue, following twenty-nine years of their unrelenting snarling, sneering and baiting — and busted their collective nose.

Breitbart pules and whines as affectingly (and affectedly) as ever did ANY schoolyard bully given his comeuppance:

Much of Mr. Obama’s vaunted online strategy involved utilizing “Internet trolls” to invade enemy lines under false names and trying to derail discussion. In the real world, that’s called “vandalism.” But in a political movement that embraces “graffiti” as avant-garde art , that’s business as usual. It relishes the ability to destroy other people’s property in pursuit of electoral victory.

Hugh Hewitt’s popular site shut off its comments section because of the success of these obnoxious invaders. Breitbart.com polices nonpartisan newswire stories for such obviously coordinated attacks. Other right-leaning sites such as Instapundit and National Review Online refuse to allow comments, knowing better than to flirt with the online activist left. [ibid.]

Those mean, mean leftists! (Note the conflation of terms above, “leftists” is a term used in American news to designate “communist” agitators in foreign conflicts — as in “leftist guerrillas” — to differentiate them from “right-wing” as in “right wing death squads.” By bringing our hate home rhetorically, we have fulfilled Pogo’s observation: “Yep, son, we have met the enemy and he is us.” One of these days, Americans, you’ll goddam figure out that words DO mean something, and when you declare “war” on drugs, pretty soon shooting, killing and massive ‘war’ casualties will follow. )

Ahem.

As I was channeling from Mr. Breitbart’s puling whine:

Terrible, MEAN leftists!

Beating up on our Scaife-funded smear machine, offending our delicate Republiklan sensibilities with their reasoned arguments and “facts” (we’re not sure what that last word means, exactly).

Fighting back and BEATING us.

WE ARE VICTIMS!

Listen to this from a bit further down:

So now that the right is vanquished and thoroughly out of power, why doesn’t it learn from its conquerors and employ similar tactics?

The answer is obvious. The right, for the most part, embraces basic Judeo-Christian ideals and would not promote nor defend the propaganda techniques that were perfected in godless communist and socialist regimes. The current political and media environment crafted by supposedly idealistic Mr. Obama resembles Hugo Chavez’s Venezuela more than John F. Kennedy’s America.

Little shock treatment and massive, involuntary doses of Thorazine’ll clear that right up for ya, cap’n.

Good lord. One is stupefied by the sheer lunatic presumption of this preposterous proposition. Sort of like the way the country’s media was stunned into a shocked silence by Sarah Palin’s winking, “I’m not going to bother answering your question” performance in the Veep Debate last fall.

Rarely does one see the fundamental principles of reasoned debate so cheerfully and unashamedly sodomized against their will by so unselfconscious a rapist.

And I mean “rape” in the most graphic, soul-chilling manner that y0u can imagine.

Here is the motto of the New Republiklan:

FUCK REALITY

(After all, it fucked us. sniffle sniffle.)

Breitbart has the sheer lying brass to claim that the reason the right can’t fight back is that they’re too “Christian” to do so, and are, essentially, crippled by their high ideals.

That’s perhaps the biggest right wing lie since the first time Rush said “trust me.”

AND THAT’S WHY WE’RE VICTIMS! OUR ESSENTIAL JUDAEO-CHRISTIANITY! (Implying that not only are they victims, but, potentially, MARTYRS to the Cause!)

Breitbart isn’t accomplished enough to be a true Soap Opera Iago, though. He’s a ham-handed propagandist at best, and try as he may at polishing the turds he lays out for sale at his cheap flea-market-of-ideas booth, one wonders how delusional his customers would have to be to buy.

Well, have n0 fear, the reviews are in:

Andrew Breitbart Shows Why He’s Becoming One of the Most Important Columnists in America Today

Ace of Spades was the first to call my attention to the pervasiveness of Obama’s Astroturf blog-troll army. They seemed to start showing up in July, and by September they were ubiquitous. They are apparently paid to do this, and they have persisted past Election Day. In January, they were caught trying to plant “hate” memes at Team Sarah in an effort to discredit Palin.

Yeah, well, guess what, trolls? Now Andrew Breitbart’s got you nailed dead to rights:

Yummy, yummy rhetorical turds. Must eat more.

Now we see Breitbart bringing this gestalt thinking to the linear format of a newspaper column. His column is always fresh and surprising. It’s not the familiar Beltway conventional wisdom or GOP talking points. I’d imagine some other columnists are looking at what Breitbart has been doing in his column and saying to themselves, “Wow. I need to up my game, or this guy’s going to eat my lunch every week.”

Last week, I talked to Breitbart on the phone for a few minutes while I was driving into DC. We talked about the phonies and fakers and ripoff artists who sell themselves as “Internet experts” and don’t have a freaking clue. [...]

Well, Breitbart looks like Shakespeare to name-dropping John Stacy McCain “The Other McCain.”*

Righties might be victims, but that Mental Wiz (make that “Whiz”) Breitbart is scaring other op-ed columnists with his “game.” He’s a victim AND a victimizer! Whoo hoo!

[* Here's a quote from that 16 Sept 2008 Ace of Spades column warning about the evil Obama Trolls:

The new legions of Concerned Christian Conservative Commenters who are -- inexplicably -- suddenly coming out of the woodwork to slam McCain/Palin despite the ticket now having the enthusiastic support of nearly 90% of Republicans are now infesting my blog, too.

Which is doubly insulting -- because they're obviously not reading my blog. Or else they'd know that, having been alerted to this by Jim Treacher, I'm now as obsessive about Astroturfing as a Chicago abortionist is about caring for a born-alive aborted baby.

What? Dude, I don't think those words say what you THINK they say.  In other words, one guesses, Ace DOESN'T pay any attention to what he's talking about in either the literal or the 'meta' sense. Oy. Onward.]

Who else?

Dan Riehl of Riehl World View takes the rhetorical tack of seeing Breitbart’s lunatic ravings and doubling down:

Sissies In The Mist*

[* Note the classical bully tactic of calling enemies "sissies" to bait them into, I don't know, pay attention to Riehl's typographic macho blusteriness?]

… But few if any of the somewhat Right-leaning stalwarts Breitbart sees himself as speaking to have the balls to say much of anything seriously antagonistic at all. They’re happy for whatever crumbs of legitimacy they can gather as they stumble about more worried about their own credibility, than any ideological fight.

Give me a freaking break here, Breitbart. The Right on line doesn’t need to be infiltrated. It has long been nurturing the seeds of its own destruction by elevating people who have already swallowed most of the little blue liberal pill of political correctness in a chase for prestige, or cash.

Yeah. That’s right, the right wing has SOLD OUT.

This is the ne plus ultra of proud wingnut victimhood: THEY could never make us victims. Only WE can make us victims! (And so we have.)

Anyone else?

3. Victim Origins

Who, you might ask, is Andrew Breitbart?

Good question.

Breitbart is Matt Drudge’s webenuensis: he puts together Drudge’s website. Wikipedia:

Contributor

Breitbart’s highest profile venue to date is the Drudge Report. Breitbart, who describes himself as “Matt Drudge’s bitch”,[3] does not write stories on the website, but simply links to other mainstream news wire sources. See Drudge Report for more information. On November 7, 2008, Mr. Breitbart guest-hosted the Savage Nation talk radio program. He is also a regular fill in for Dennis Miller on his nationally syndicated radio show.

Author

Breitbart co-wrote Hollywood, Interrupted : Insanity Chic in Babylon — The Case Against Celebrity with Mark Ebner; the book is highly critical of Hollywood U.S. celebrity culture, as the authors perceive it. [1] The publisher’s description says, “Celebrities somehow believe that it’s their god-given right to inflict their pathology on the rest of us. Hollywood, Interrupted illustrates how these dysfunctional dilettantes are mad as hell… And we’re not going to take it any more.”

Breitbart’s work has been published in the Wall Street Journal, National Review Online and the Weekly Standard Online, among others. He writes a weekly column now for The Washington Times, which also appears at Real Clear Politics.

Commentator

Breitbart has appeared as a conservative commentator on talk shows such as Real Time with Bill Maher and Dennis Miller. [2] Breitbart took on a higher profile as a commentator during the 2004 U.S. election cycle after appearing in Michael Moore Hates America [3], a 2004 movie directed by Michael Wilson that is highly critical of filmmaker Michael Moore’s documentary creation tactics and editing style. Was also a guest commentator on Fox News Channel’s morning show on May 10th, 2004. He frequently appears as a guest panelist on Fox News Channel’s late night program, Red Eye w/ Greg Gutfeld.

Ah. A pundit wannabe. Evidently he has some web skills, and even started out as a non-denominational IT geek (ibid.):

Andrew Breitbart (born February 1, 1969) is an American conservative commentator for the Washington Times, author,[2] occasional guest commentator for political news programs and is best known as a part-time editor of the conservative Drudge Report website. He was a developer for The Huffington Post and currently runs his own news portal, Breitbart.com.

Now, considering that he probably wrote the Wikipedia entry, this grandiloquent magnificence and coruscating brilliantine über-ness may be a tad overstated.

I began to note here a couple weeks ago (and the Bill Maher “Real Time” appearance clinched it) that Andrew Breitbart is a boorish thug. But let the “victim” describe his martyrdom:

Pretty much everyone I respect in media and politics recommended I not go on HBO’s “Real Time With Bill Maher.” But on Friday night, I defied that wisdom and had the time of my life.

“Everyone I respect hates Bill Maher.” That pretty much tells us where our victim hails from. But he, brave rewriter of history, has the last word, and instead of getting his ass handed to him as everyone else saw, he “had the time of my life.” Bracing, getting one’s ass kicked like that. Or, never let ‘em see you sweat.

I sparred with Mr. Maher, Georgetown professor Michael Eric Dyson and a MoveOn.org audience from hell that booed my sentences before they were completed. Unfortunately, my wife and in-laws, who watched from the green room, were not as enamored with the experience as I was.

The Theodcore Nugent Victim Card: I am, of course, not scared, but you scared my wife, kids, parents, dog, parrot, etc. You mean old victimizer, you!

Since the salad days of ABC’s “Politically Incorrect,” which minted countless right-wing pundits and best-selling authors, conservatives have rightly assessed the HBO version of the Maher show as R-rated and shockingly hostile to their worldview. So most opt out.

I totally see why. But I think that’s exactly the wrong strategy.

The problem with the withdrawal approach is that it cedes the popular culture debate to the other side. We figure talk radio, a certain cable news network and some independent Internet venues will allow for us to get our ideas out to the masses.

In other words, talk radio and Fox News are our propaganda outlets, with no apologies for their bias, and we all know it.

Well, those few outlets are greatly outnumbered. They are also isolated and targeted for destruction by the activist left. The sitting president (using taxpayer money) is now leading the charge….

BUT WE ARE MEDIA VICTIMS! And the PRESIDENT is behind this attack that’s making victims of my parents. (Not me. I’m tough, macho Andrew Breitbart, pampered, born and bred in Brentwood, California, hater of “leftist” celebrities and webmaster to Matt Drudge.)

Or, take this “callout” quote from his Wikipedia page:

“[Left-leaning Hollywood personalities] are uninteresting, they’re vicious, they’re vitriolic, they’re really, really not good people. I’m willing to say that on the record. You could probe them scientifically and anthropologically and prove that they’re not good people….[The Hollywood left] is a stale group of people who are recycling the same old bad ideas that don’t work. Why else would those people go to the stinky side?”
Meet Andrew Breitbart, self-proclaimed rebel-king of L.A.’s underground conservative movement (interview), 2008[1]

And isnt’ that the bray of the bully that’s just gotten his nose busted for screaming his childish insults one time too many?*

(* OK: the question was rhetorical — of course that’s the bray of the busted[but not busty] bully. Breitbart the busted bullying boor. Busted, that bully, the Breitbart boor. boorish bullying Britbart BUSTED.)

4. Washing Checkers’ blood from my shirt

Evidently a copy of Aesop’s Fables fell, unaccountably, into David Horowitz’s hands, and, on the same day Breitbart was Battling the Invasive Obama Internet Goons, Horowitz was shouting the moral of the tale “The Little Party Who Yelled Wolfowitz”:

Obama Derangement Syndrome
By David Horowitz
FrontPageMagazine.com | Monday, March 30, 2009

I have been watching an interesting phenomenon on the Right, which is beginning to cause me concern. I am referring to the over-the-top hysteria in response to the first months in office of our new president, which distinctly reminds me of the “Bush Is Hitler” crowd on the Left.

Speaking of this crowd, have you seen any “I am so sorry” postings from that quarter as Obama continues and even escalates the former president’s war policy in Afghanistan and attempts to consolidate his military occupation of Iraq?

Conservatives, please. Let’s not duplicate the manias of the Left as we figure out how to deal with Mr. Obama. He is not exactly the anti-Christ, although a disturbing number of people on the Right are convinced he is…

Hmmm. Horowitz is, fundamentally, saying, KKKonservatives, kkkeep your powder dry. But he can’t avoid the reflexive bullying response, the knee-jerk smear, the habitual belittlements.

What he’s actually counseling is to wait for the opportunity to smear, degrade, throw feces at, and otherwise destroy Obama, but don’t ruin your credibility by engaging in gratuitous hatred … even as he trips his own prose with a suffusion of gratuitous hatred.

The bullying, the belittling, the hate, the invective, the sneering, the incivility and the conspiracy-theorist’s paranoia are too deeply ingrained in the bullies’ psyche to stop.

To which we match the outrageous claim of bully Breitbart:

So now that the right is vanquished and thoroughly out of power, why doesn’t it learn from its conquerors and employ similar tactics?

The answer is obvious. The right, for the most part, embraces basic Judeo-Christian ideals and would not promote nor defend the propaganda techniques that were perfected in godless communist and socialist regimes….

To which I add this syncretic analysis, based on the best of Western epistemology, including a McLuhanesque understanding of media propaganda techniques and a long and intimate acquaintance with rhetorical techniques and strategems: Asshole.

They have met the enemy and the enemy busted their nose.

Or, put another way: there is enough bullshit in the world without you making shit up.

So: Happy April Fools’ Day, with a special shout out to the Fools on the Right who, after 30 years of bullying would have us believe that they’re victims, including Ann Coulter, who is currently selling a book on how the “Left” uses the “Victim” card to gain its ends, by whining about hos the liberal media has made her a victim and a martyr, including a ban by NBC for life.

Way to stick your foot so far in your mouth that it comes out your ass, Ann.

And, as of today, Pajamas media is dead in the blogosphere. Just Pajamas TV. Who are all victims, including their TV superstar, Joe the Victim. Er, Plumber. Er, Plumbob.

You’ll be missed, Pajamas.

April FOOL!

Courage.

UPDATE 6:30 AM PDT: If you’re here from the Protein Wisdom sneer link, yeah, we can’t figure out the intellectual dyslexia there, either.

But thanks to Dumbass Dan for reinforcing the braying bully/coward meme of this post. I guess he’s just PO’ed about no longer receiving his laundered stipend from the RNC. Now, if only he’d fellow PW blogger Jeff Goldstein’s earlier promise and log off the blogosphere permanently, since, as JG says, he can no longer afford to spew hate without pay.
