Wanking with Butt Plug Bob

deliverance

Lunatic fringe
I know you’re out there
You’re in hiding
And you hold your meetings
We can hear you coming
We know what you’re after
We’re wise to you this time
We won’t let you kill the laughter.

– from the Red Rider LP “As Far As Siam”

I didn’t blog yesterday because I was morally disgusted.

I who believe in nuance, who have actually lived in the real world, and who still has a moral compass — no matter what you might have heard — am simply flabbergasted watching the “Party of Super-Morality”™, a party addicted to simplistic black and white answers to simple black and white questions, a party that’s consistently run on a “law and order” platform, who brooks no questioning of their Utter Morality, purity, and “Christian” values suddenly finds itself faced with the simple proposition: what do you do about torturers in the USA?

Oooh, NOW there’s nuance (bizarre nuances, to be sure), and the same sorts of satanic dodges that “forgave” Rush Limbaugh’s junkie behavior and drug abuse because they were “prescription” drugs.

That way, they can continue to hate every junkie in the land, demand their lockup, demand ever greater depredations of civil  liberties in the name of a phony “War on Drugs” AND continue to embrace one of their own, in this case, the serial bigot and pathological liar Rush Limbaugh. Brava! (The feminine form, because, for all their phony macho bluster, no cojones attach vis-à-vis their actual behavior.)

Well, suddenly their vaunted moral superiority seems to flee in the face of blatant torture of other human beings with flagrant disregard for laws and principles that the USA itself — herself, whatever — convinced the world of, and is signatory to treaties against, and explicitly makes a war crime in its own criminal code.

Suddenly black and white — one of the rare instances that you’ll actually see morally unambiguous right and wrong — becomes as twisty as the arguments of a mob lawyer on a television interview show.

deliverance-01

But still, they find ways to MAINTAIN their proud fiction of moral superiority and highfalutin’ principles.  At least they have a poster boy.

From the man who claimed that Google was trying to destroy Christmas, from the man who hounded and harassed a private in the U.S. Army, serving in combat in Iraq because he didn’t BELIEVE him* (having never served himself), from a man who supposedly “noticed” that MoveOn Dot Org got a special “ad break” on their “BetrayUs Petraeus” ad, while he was in intimate email contact with Col. Steven Boylan, Petraeus’ chief “Information Officer” comes this “moral” and “principled” stand on “freedom of speech.”

[* Note: one of the sources orgiastically cited by the Rightie blogosmear™ has recently suffered a slight diminuation of his credibility on this matter. Happily, Butt Plug Bob was able to return to his "Google is trying to destroy Christmas" mode of reasoning in his commentary on the matter.]

dliverance

In this case, the freedom of speech of the religious bigot who went after Congressman Keith Ellison for having his ceremonial swearing in with a Koran, rather than a Bible, because Ellison is a Muslim, and this enraged our bigot — who was turned out of office after five terms and one change of parties in 2008 — who was speaking at the University of North Carolina about anti-immigration (and, undoubtedly, along with his Muslim-bashing, the coded “Mexican bashing” bigotry that “anti-immigration” has become in this country).

A fellow the Washington Post devoted a complete editorial to, under the title, “A Bigot in Congress.”

Well aware, seemingly, of what coded racism and bigotry looks like, certain UNC students objected. Enter Butt Plug Bob, Crooks and Liars “2005’s Worst Post of the Year” winner, and Über-arbiter of morality (who can’t, of course, condemn torture and illegal wiretapping, but CAN find it in whatever he uses in place of a heart to defend our unemployed bigot):

Tarheel Fascism

6 people, presumably students, have been arrested protesting Virgil Goode’s speech against illegal immigration at UNC-Chapel Hill. They seem to be every bit as tolerant as the Carolina blue fascists that violently ended Tom Tancredo’s attempted speech last week.

The Daily Tarheel covered the speech via Twitter, and described juvenile protesters that simply don’t understand that the freedom of speech hinges on the free exchange of ideas, not drowning out those that oppose your own.

It’s a sad commentary on the state of education and intellectual discourse at Chapel Hill, but sadly a kind of intellectual bullying that has become a favored tactic on the political left.

A protestor at the Tancredo event sums up the thuggish behavior with daring honesty when she admitted, “I don’t believe a lot of change in this country have come through debating and being happy and talking to people.”

Presumably one day in the future this protestor or another one like her will brag about having the university with the cleanest-burning ovens. [emphasis added]

Right. Exercising one’s free speech right to create a public nuisance and getting arrested for it is “fascism” … how? Like that clown who protest Ahmadinajad’s hate-rant against Israel, who was arrested before the delegates walked out in droves on Ahmadinijad? Was THAT fascist, too?

Funny. This terrific concept of tolerance of free speech and open debate didn’t extend to Ward Churchill. I guess IOKIYAR applies to “superior” “moral” judgments a lot more than one could even imagine.

Virgil Goode and Tom Tancredo as “free speech” martyrs?

Not bigots?

“Squeal like a pig”

There’s a term for this kind of “flexible” absolutism in clinical psychology. What was it?

Oh, yes, I remember:

Psychosis.

Lunatic fringe
In the twilight’s last gleaming
This is open season
But you won’t get too far
We know you’ve got to blame someone
For your own confusion
But we’re on guard this time
Against your final solution

– Red Rider

And, in case you’re still feeling unfulfilled after Butt Plug Bob’s High Dudgeon defense of Virgil Goode and Tom Tancredo’s anti-Islam, anti-immigrant bigotries, Bob follows with his “fascism” post and resurrects his “Google is trying to destroy Christmas” reasoning to “expertly” attack the Mexican police and government as liars, because he’s got a picture of a machine gun that he conflates with … oh just enjoy its deranged magnificence:  How to be “morally superior” without actually ever being “moral.

Courage.

UPDATE 12:28 PM PDT: Turns out that Barney Frank was once wrong, which, one presumes, means in Republiklan Logick that he is therefore ALWAYS wrong. The Usual Suspects pile on.
