Or, “The Steyn/Beck Fakes of Wrath.”
Those who do not learn from history are doomed to repeat it:
Coming again, for the umpteenth year:
‘The Gingrich Steals Another Christmas’
Über-nationalist Mark Steyn writing to True Americans — even though he, like Krauthammer is actually from Canada — lays out the whole con today, if only by accident:
Michael Gerson has lousy timing. In The Washington Post, in one of those now familiar elegies for old media, he writes:
And the whole system is based on a kind of intellectual theft. Internet aggregators (who link to news they don’t produce) and bloggers would have little to collect or comment upon without the costly enterprise of newsgathering and investigative reporting. The old-media dinosaurs remain the basis for the entire media food chain.
That’s laughably untrue in the Warmergate story. If you rely on the lavishly remunerated “climate correspondents” of the big newspapers and networks, you’ll know nothing about the Climate Research Unit scandals – just the business-as-usual drivel about Boston being underwater by 2011. Indeed, even when a prominent media warm-monger addresses the issue, the newspaper prefers to reprint a month-old column predating the scandal. If you follow online analysis from obscure websites on the fringes of the map, you’ll know what’s going on. If you go to the convenience store and buy today’s newspaper, you won’t. That’s the problem.
Not mentioning that’s a lie. It’s not a legitimate scandal because it’s a manufactured story. Just like the James O’Keefe phony ACORN tapes and rightie kerfuffle panties-in-a-bunching.*
(I gots news for you GOP-pers: really poor people can’t AFFORD your highfalutin’ “moralism.” They just want to survive. And the only thing that the ACORN evidence proves is that very poor people run lots of bogus stories by ACORN advisors. Talking about breaking the law and actually breaking it are two different things. And, since WHEN have Republicans been concerned about obeying the law? Not for the past eight years, at least. War crimes = yawn. ACORN tapes = bluenose orgasm. That isn’t “two wrongs making a right” — that favorite rightie tactic — but, rather, observation of a highly selective “morality” in action.)
“That’s the problem” for Steyn the “American” patriot*. Just like “American” patriot Rupert Murdoch sells us back our own nationalist fervor. And “American” patriot Charles Krauthammer advises us all on how to run a marathon.
[* Did not Steyn exist, Kurt Vonnegut had already invented him: Howard W. Campbell, Jr., narrator of Mother Night (the bo0k, not the movie), save that Steyn isn't serving any sub rosa, exculpatory instrumentality. He really IS that big an asshole.]
The World’s Worst Exegete™ inadvertently tips his hand when he sneers that the infamous MSM isn’t on the ball on the “Warmergate” story (which, you will note, was launched just the week prior to Thanksgiving* – circa November 20 — to give Planet Wingnuttia and the Wingnuttian Masters a chance to create a false firestorm that will drive the debate on climate change legislation.
[* When Washington D.C. was shutting down and reporters were taking vacation time, and there's very little blowback to manufacturing a blogswarm. This one is unique and perhaps a harbinger of things to come, in that it begins in Wingnut circles in England, and is being pushed by British tabl0ids, American bloggers and perhaps Australians and New Zealand "conservatives" as well in a sort of "across the pond and around the world" display of Wingnut solidarity in what may be the first corporate attempt to spit in the face of sovereign nations: this may well be the beginning of a power struggle between nations and multi-national corporations for world dominance. Time will tell.]
Telegraph (UK) blogger James Delingpole,
leading light of pushing the “scandal” meme,
based on hacked emails, whose authenticity is
automatically questionable, given their route
to the public eye. Ain’t he a peach?
Gee. Where have we seen that tactic of a coordinated attack to create a false news story as a political tactic to frighten the public (and, by extension, congress) into going “their” way?
Whitewater. Bill Clinton 1993. You will recall that the sheep were scared enough by 1994 that they turned congress over to them in the “Newt Gingrich Revolution.”
Oh, and the initial series of phony “scandals” created a “Special Prosecutor,” who, straying far afield from his original charge to discover improprieties in Whitewater, eventually released the infamous Starr Report — and the Impeachment and then George W. Bush — who said he’d be a “uniter not a divider” (and would only fuck his wife) — who ruled from the far right from the very moment of his “election.”
Now they’re back.
Just like the ACORN “scandal” there is more smoke than fire, but the issue isn’t whether there is anything BEHIND the allegations. It is promoting it to a MAJOR NEWS STORY — all the while claiming that it’s that awful “biased liberal media” who is actively SITTING ON YOUR RIGHT TO KNOW, Mister and Missus MainStreet U.S.A!
It is winning the policy debate by fraud, deceit and trickery; it is the attempt to effectively destroy this presidency by any means necessary — as they successfully did once before, remember? — and it is profoundly treasonous not just to the nation, but to the entire human species, if not to say to all living beings on the face of the Earth.
Here is the deal: if human pollution is creating global warming, we need to slow it down as much as possible. Even if it isn’t, slowing down greenhouse (and other emissions) is a moral imperative.
Did you understand that? A MORAL imperative. The only moral justification for continuing to pollute as much as possible is the absence of any morality.
Which is defined as sociopathy.
Welcome to the John Gacys, the Ed Geins, the Jeffrey Daumers, the Charlie Mansons of the Planet. Anything to make a buck; so deep in denial that astonishing efforts are mounted to DEFEND POLLUTION.
That’s what we’re talking about, after all.
And we see their tactic winning. Far from being a “problem” for the left, this OUGHT to be a wakeup call:
Fewer Americans believe in global warming, poll shows
By Juliet Eilperin
Washington Post Staff Writer
Wednesday, November 25, 2009
The percentage of Americans who believe global warming is happening has dipped from 80 to 72 percent in the past year, according to a new Washington Post-ABC News poll, even as a majority still support a national cap on greenhouse gas emissions.
The poll’s findings — which also show that 55 percent of respondents think the United States should curb its carbon output even if major developing nations such as China and India do less — suggest increasing political polarization around the issue, just as the Obama administration and congressional Democrats are intensifying efforts to pass climate legislation and broker an international global warming pact.
The increase in climate skepticism is driven largely by a shift within the GOP. Since its peak 3 1/2 years ago, belief that climate change is happening is down sharply among Republicans — 76 to 54 percent — and independents — 86 to 71 percent. It dipped more modestly among Democrats, from 92 to 86 percent. A majority of respondents still support legislation to cap emissions and trade pollution allowances, by 53 to 42 percent.
Amanda Feinberg, a retired administrative assistant living in South Williamsport, Pa., said she became disenchanted with the idea of human-caused global warming when former vice president Al Gore launched a public awareness campaign with his documentary, “An Inconvenient Truth.”
“He just seemed a little radical in his views,” said Feinberg, a Republican. “I don’t deny it’s happening, I just think it’s just an evolution of nature.” … [MORE]
Gee. By putting a “human face” on global warming, and using 25 years of reinforced hatred of Al Gore*, weak minded Republicans are disbelieving the concept of global warming?
[* Delingpole of the UK:
Climategate: the final nail in the coffin of ‘Anthropogenic Global Warming’? — If you own any shares in alternative energy companies I should start dumping them NOW. The conspiracy behind the Anthropogenic Global Warming myth (aka AGW; aka ManBearPig) has been suddenly …
ManBearPig is a rather vicious South Park parody going back a-ways, and reveals Delingpole's personal agenda. AGW is a mysterious acronym that Delingpole uses so often that he presumes that all his readers understand it. I'm glad to hear from anybody who knows what it is. Here's this Brit twit's most recent book titles, in his own humble third-person voice:
"the author of numerous fantastically entertaining books including Welcome To Obamaland: I've Seen Your Future And It Doesn't Work, (and) How To Be Right,"
... which suggests, well, you be the judge as to his credibility.
Kind of astounding that some self-styled GP "intellectual" could put the "final nail in the coffin" of a phenomenon that the vast majority of the world's climate scientists agree on. Were this a "democratic" vote, the Global Warming Deniers would be so fringe as to not even register in the final tally. They'd even be soundly whipped by the undervote! ]
Not playing with much of a deck to begins with, you’ll have to admit. Yeah: Adolph Hitler believed that 2+2=4, so math is, like totally bogus. And, like King George III believed in Creationism, so that’s like completely false, too.
All men are mortal; Socrates is a man: therefore all men are Socrates.
The eternal sillygism® of GOP politix. Or, just drop the “liti” and you’ll be nearer the mark.*
[* Really, they ought to change to another party, because this one has nothing to do with Abe Lincoln or Teddy Roosevelt. Increasingly, their political role models seem to be Idi Amin and Joe Stalin.]
And the sidebar ought to scare you (or Mark Steyn, since he claims, essentially that the MSM isn’t covering this “important” phony story Whitewarmer):
Yup: that’s from the November 24 issue of the Washington Post, five days before Steyn comments on the article.
Fine, Steyn doesn’t claim that the MSM news isn’t covering it (actually he does) but hedges his bet by saying they’re not covering it ENOUGH. Worse, he implies that ONLY BY COVERING THE PHONY Whitewarmer story CAN THE MSM RETURN TO CREDIBILITY (which Steyn seems to implicitly approve of, as he concludes:
If anyone needs newspapers, it ought to be for stories like this. If there were no impending ecopalypse, then “climate science” would be a relatively obscure field, as it was up to a generation ago. Now it produces celebrity scientists living high off the hog of billions in grants. They thus have a vested interest in maintaining the planet’s-gonna-fry line. So what do the media do? Instead of exposing the thesis to rigorous journalistic examination, they stage fluffy green stunts, run soft-focus “living green” features with Hollywood “activists”, and at a time of massive staff cutbacks in every other department create the positions of specialist “climate correspondent” and “environmental reporter” and fill them with sycophantic promoters of the Big Scare to the point that, as Dr Mann coos approvingly to The New York Times, “you’ve taken the words out of my mouth”.
What Gerson writes ought to be true. Warmergate demonstrates why it isn’t.
But we don’t win by continually playing defense; by continually reacting.
We win by bearding the lyin’ in their den(s). We have to go after this Whitewater Machine in its newest incarnation. Many, if not most, of the players are the same. Joe Farah (of WorldNutDaily) and Christopher Ruddy (of Newsmax) cut their teeth with Richard Mellon Scaife money, shamelessly flogging the Vince Foster “murder” for political “gain.” Now, Farah and Ruddy are flogging the “birther” story, and by Monday, when Farah gets back from his weird survivalist cult, he’ll be on the Whitewarmer story.
They are united in their anarchy, while we remain fragmented in our consensus.*
[* Jacob Weisberg / Slate: By January, he will have accomplished more than any first-year president since Franklin Roosevelt. — About one thing, left and right seem to agree these days: Obama hasn't done anything yet. Maureen Dowd and Dick Cheney have found common ground in scoffing at the president's “dithering.” ...]
Oh, I’m sorry: I meant “Warmergate.” Or “Climategate,” which others are propounding.
The left remains blissfully somnolent, willing to screech about gay marriage and the “public option” while EVERYTHING else goes to hell in a handbasket, and the selfishness of the modern liberal — who refuse to make common cause or defend their own president — is exp0sed yet again in a display showing all the unpredictability of the sunrise and the tides.
as pertinent an observation now as it was in the 1770s
And it, too, is working. Steve Benin of the Washington Monthly cites the nervous nellies and chicken littles of the Left as the Daily Kos poll never suggests to them that they must ACT. Let Obama do it:
November 28, 2009
GIVE VOTERS A REASON…. The latest Research 2000 poll for Daily Kos included the usual question on the generic congressional ballot, with Dems still enjoying a modest edge
over Republicans, 37% to 32%, with 31% unsure. Democratic numbers were strongest in the Northeast (53% Dems, 7% GOP), and Republican numbers were strongest in the South (51% GOP, 21% Dems).
But this poll added a new question to the mix to measure voter enthusiasm: “In the 2010 Congressional elections will you definitely vote, probably vote, not likely vote, or definitely will not vote?” The overall results aren’t nearly as interesting as the partisan breakdown.
Among self-identified Republican voters, 81% are either “definitely” voting next year or “probably” voting, while 14% are “not likely” to vote or will “definitely” not vote.
Among self-identified Independent voters, 65% are either “definitely” voting next year or “probably” voting, while 23% are “not likely” to vote or will “definitely” not vote.
And among self-identified Democratic voters, 56% are either “definitely” voting next year or “probably” voting, while 40% are “not likely” to vote or will “definitely” not vote.
Markos, who called the results “shocking,” explained:
Two in five Democratic voters either consider themselves unlikely to vote at this point in time, or have already made the firm decision to remove themselves from the 2010 electorate pool. Indeed, Democrats were three times more likely to say that they will “definitely not vote” in 2010 than are Republicans.
This enormous enthusiasm gap … seems to make passing legitimate health care reform an absolute political necessity for Democrats. This polling data certainly should be something for Congressional leadership to consider, as they move along the legislative path.
The notion of an enthusiasm gap this year is not exactly new, but we haven’t seen numbers quite this stark until now … [MORE]
In this war of the memes, if we don’t adopt a different term for this manufactured outrage, it’ll be another “Death Tax” debate.
No: it’s Whitewarmer. Another phony attempt to usurp the people’s right to choose their representatives. Where I come from that’s called treason.*
[* Hell, where Mark Steyn comes from it's called "treason" as well, but Canadians are generally too polite to do anything about it. Actually, what we probably need here is to import some progressive Québécois.]
deranged Yogi Bear clone Mark Steyn
So, progressives, either get on the goddamned stick and go after these bastards, or history will repeat itself, plus or minus a blowjob or two.
They stole your vote, steal your vote and CONTINUE to steal your vote: filibusters beyond precedent; endless delays, straw men, phony scandals, the destruction of Van Jones, the attempt to destroy ACORN (which must be doing a great job, if they’re willing to pull out all the stops to destroy it like it was the Air Traffic Controllers’ Union and they were still Ronald Ray-Gun) and a complicit media more than willing to act as enabler by uncritically printing their endless founts of bullshit as though it were Holy Writ.
By being unwilling to establish that real facts trump fake facts and trump mere opinion.
Therefore, ask not upon whom the forced anal sex is being practiced, my friends.
It is being practiced upon thee.
And I’m donne. [sic]
UPDATE 3 December 4:04 AM PST:
Finally found out what “AGW” is:
AGW = Anthropogenic Global Warming
Thanks to all my eagle-eyed readers for this.
(I’m being ironic.)
