What Matters Right Now

I’m going to talk about a coup d’etat, as promised yesterday, but first, nothing so graphically illustrates the fundamentally twisted and psychotic state of the blogosphere and commentary than Memeorandum RIGHT NOW.

What are the big stories? Well, first, nine members of a Michigan “militia” were arrested by the FBI, as a plot to assassinate a police officer and then target his funeral to murder the gathered police officers using assault weapons and improvised explosive devices became imminent.

Second, the FBI arrested a Philadelphia man for threatening to kill Republican House Whip Eric Cantor of Virginia:

And, finally, the minor kerfuffle that GOP Chairman Michael Steele spent (or claims that someone ELSE spent) $2000 at a West Hollywood strip club, using GOP funds. These are the same people who spent $150,000 of GOP funds on Sarah Palin’s designer clothes and all that underwear, bras, panties, and silk boxers for her husband — that were never given back in all probability because you CANNOT donate used undergarments to charity. Either they were returned to the GOP and burned, or more likely kept by the Palins. (But no one will ask the question and, if they did, no one will answer.)

Guess which story is Number ONE?

Yup. The collective sense of priority has reality exactly backwards. The Steele story is a minor scandal and part of a long-running series of embarrassments for a party so racist that it chose a Black chairman to give the appearance of “diversity” when there have only been three Black GOP members of Congress since 1936, and haven’t had anyone at all since the 1990s. This point is, of course, never mentioned in the endless blather depicted above.

The Cantor story is Number Two, and the retarded Reich claims — in an astonishing bit of Goebbels-like propaganda (From Jim “Fish Story” Hoft’s, increasingly unhinged “Gateway Pundit”):

(In case you wondered why Michelle Malkin isn’t leading the homicidal lunatic derangement sweepstakes, it turns out that she’s on vacation. Oh, wait. She’s Baaaaack: Michelle Malkin: Document drop: FBI charges anti-Semitic nutball with threats … )

The militia story? That’s number three, below the Cantor story, because, being an “Obama donor” who threatened Eric “They Shot My Campaign Office that wasn’t a campaign office, and they didn’t actually shoot even THAT office, it was a stray round, but that doesn’t sound good, so I’ll stick to my story that unhinged Democrats are out to get ME” Cantor … threatened Cantor on YouTube, AND had also threatened President Obama a year ago, but you don’t hear that, because it doesn’t neatly play into the Rubber/Glue narrative of the Reich Wing that it’s DEMOCRATS (like me, a “fringe radical lefty blogger,” as charged last week) who are ACTUALLY inciting violence!!!!!!

(Yesterday’s discovery of a video showing a Democratic congressman being actually spat on, by the teabagger crowd at the capitol the prior Sunday has been met with crickets.)

(Or, the traditional rightie turn reality upside down response:)

And guess what? The Cantor threatener wasn’t even arrested TODAY! He (who seems to be actually nuts) was arrested this weekend. But THAT’s more “important” in the manipulated media than are today’s militia arrests?

Yup.

Therefore, do not ask for whom the bell tolls. (You’ll get arrested or smeared or both if you do.)

But at least Eric Cantor can finally, legitimately, be a “victim” of leftist political VIIIIOOOOLLLLENNNCCCEEE!

(Even it it is a kind of sad, pathetic nutbag they picked up in Philly. Somehow, being an “Obama Donor” means that the President personally approved this message. Turn that argument around and see how far the blogosmear™ lets you get with it.)

April is almost here …

Collectively, our priorities are COMPLETELY backwards in a sad and silly and tragic manner.

And the manipulation of media coverage is nowhere more apparent. To inflate a semi-stale NON-story (nutcases are arrested all the time, you know) over a REAL story about domestic terrorists is akin to screaming for weeks about a guy who tried to set his underwear on fire, AS THOUGH IT HAD ACTUALLY HAPPENED.

No wonder Howard Kaloogian can manipulate the media into giving Olympics-style coverage of the “Conservative Woodstock” in Searchlight, Nevada that relies on “Tearing Down the Saddam Statue” camera tricks to make it appear as though hundreds of thousands attended the rally that Sarah Palin and Joe the Plumbob, et al, were PAID to speak at: a crowd comparable to a Las Vegas area dune buggy or dirt bike race. But not a crowd that would have made an all day outdoor rock concert profitable — and that after being flogged relentlessly by Faux Nooz™ for weeks.

Kim Jong Il understands this kind of media stunt. Too bad our “free press” doesn’t. Or should I call that our “fee press”?

There is something sad and sick and twisted and tragic about the national debate when Michael Steele’s stripper bill trumps a group of crazies seriously conspiring bloody sedition.

Our priorities, as expressed via the Collective Obnoxious™ of the blogosphere are all F***ED up.

Courage.

==================

And now, I’m a part of the whole sick morass. Maybe somebody will read this:

Happy Passover.

  2. Montana

Since their inception the Teaparty crowd (not a movement since they do have the numbers or clout) have been “haters not debaters”. In my opinion this is what the small portions of the republican party of “birthers, baggers and blowhards” have brought you.

They are good at “Follow the Leader” of their dullard leaders, they listen to Beck, Hedgecock, Hannity, O’Reilly, Rush and Savage and the rest of the Blowhards. Are you surprised at what they do when you know what they think? The world is complicated and most Republicans (Hamiliton, Lincoln, Roosevelt) believe that we should use government a little to increase social mobility, now its about dancing around the claim of government is the problem.

The sainted Reagan passed the biggest tax increase in American history and as a result federal employment increased, but facts are lost when mired in mysticism and superstition. Although some republicans are trying to distant themselves from this fringe most of them are just going along and fanning the flames.

Lets face it the Republicans had 8 years to deal with health care, immigration and financial oversight and governance and they failed. They could not even win one of the two wars they started, the body bags are still coming in. The Republicans wanted to give Obama his Waterloo defeat over healthcare but instead they gave themselves their own Waterloo defeat by not participating in the debate of ideas and by becoming the party of obstructionist. But they now claim they have changed, come on, what sucker is going to believe that?

    • Well put Montana (if that IS your real name).

Only one minor correction: Hamilton founded the Federalist Party. The Federalist Party collapsed. Then, there was the Whig Party. It collapsed.

Now, we have the Republican Party.

      Sense a pattern?
