Here’s Richard Trumka, president of the AFL-CIO, this morning:
I do believe that freedom isn’t free — but today the corporate and political right wing is trying to cheapen this truly American value. They’ve been cynically using the word “freedom” to rally the American public against its own best interests.
When the U.S. Supreme Court upheld the Affordable Care Act, Sarah Palin tweeted, “Obama lies; freedom dies.”
She’s referring, I guess, to the freedom to go without health care when you’re sick.
In its otherwise positive decision, the Supreme Court gave states the “freedom” to deny Medicaid coverage to their poorest residents — even though the federal government would pick up the tab…

From the Bad Old Days
At this point, this ‘slow secession’ needs to be seen for what it is: treason and a clear and present danger to the Republic. This statement is not made lightly, nor hyperbolically, nor for literary effect. It is a plain statement of fact.
They’ve been threatening and shaking their guns, and now, with the THIRD branch of government agreeing to the Affordable Health Care Act (both houses of Congress, a majority of the Supreme Court and the President), suddenly all bets are off. Which is a fundamental REJECTION of the Constitution, the flag, and all that other patriotic bullshit they like to wrap their hatred and cruelty in to make it palatable to morons.

We begin with TeaTard Allen West (R. Lunaticville), who makes this scary pronouncement (from rightie site Townhall, who seem to embrace it. h/t steve k):
Allen West Response to ObamaTax: Everyone Should Buy a Glock 9mm or We’ll Tax You
Katie Pavlich
News Editor, Townhall
Jul 03, 2012 07:26 AM ESTRep. Allen West is less than pleased with the Supreme Court’s ruling that ObamaCare is a tax. During an event in Florida, West said the tax code is now being used as a weapon against the American people while he gave a brief history of the ever increasing income tax rate. West did however find a way to get standing applause from the audience after suggesting everyone be taxed into buying a Glock 9mm.
“I have a great idea. I believe that for personal security every American should have to go out and buy a Glock 9 mm
[note: Extended Applause not in Townhall's transcription.]
and if you don’t do it, we’ll tax you.”
At the same event, West said President Obama wants Americans to be his slaves.
“He does not want you to have the self-esteem of getting up and earning, and having that title of American. He’d rather you be his slave.”
If that doesn’t chill you, take a look at the video, it’s worse (and this is just the warmup):
Click here to watch on YouTube
Of course, as pointed out two days ago (“John Roberts – Too Clever by Half (conclusion)“), George Washington and Congress passed EXACTLY the sort of mandate that West is screaming about as some kind of worst-case scenario.
All served up in s steaming stew of paranoia, as West dances around the code phrasing of “the Black guy wants to make you white folk SLAVES” acting out that role that used to be called, in the South, “House[term that you'll find in the uncensored Huckleberry Finn]” — a house servant who spied on the others to keep his position and to keep tabs on what the other, less fortunate involuntary field hands, were up to.
Snitching on what the field hands (Barack Obama) were plotting against Massa (the Koch Brothers).
You can take the analogy or leave it, but, as usual, Allan West has used his superficial racial identity to immunize himself from the consequences of beyond-the-pale (no pun intended) race baiting and gun baiting and whipping the troops into a feral frenzy by preaching the sheer idiocy that TAXES — per se — are the Enemy of the People.

No: not in a representative govenment, they aren’t and wasn[t it YOU jackasses who bankrupted us with your illegal invasion, occupation, torture, "no bid contract" lootocracy etcetera, etcetera, etcetera? Or am I just making this all up?

This kind of stuff is showing up EVERYWHERE. To be fair, the rest of the post is almost entirely "purist" libertarian accusation that everyone EXCEPT the poster (and YOU, gentle reader) is a corporate whore, a criminal, just the same, etc. No more invocations of Second Amendment Rights. (That's for the July 2 post, They Will Seize Guns in Tampa-Despite State Law.)
Or look at this, which actually has a page entitled "Top Ten Reasons to Secede."
Top Ten Reasons to Secede
(Why secede?)Here are the top 10 reasons Texas should secede from the Union.
1. The Freedom to be responsible for our own future
2. No more intervention from the EPA
3. No more US income tax
4. No more regulation from agencies like the Interstate Commerce Commission
5. Texas can protect its borders better than the Federal Government
6. No longer subject to the Federal Reserve Bank
7. No longer subject to decisions by the US Supreme Court
8. No longer forced to recognize decisions made by other States
9. No longer responsible for debts of the Federal Government
10. Complete and Total Energy Independence
11. Governing decisions are better made at a local level*[* Note: Yes, the top ten reasons number eleven. I guess they're so anti-authority they rebel against their OWN rules. FreeDUMB!]

My chains know how to SPELL, at least. Teatard protest 2010.
This would all be laughable were it not being made mainstream by the lunatic media and their political enablers.
They’re SERIOUS, folks.
We used to call this “treason,” and for 149 years since the start of the Civil War it was taken VERY seriously. Not no more. Too Much Information. Just some crazy neoconfederates (re)enacting out, Right? Wrong.

Reasons to Secede was founded by concerned Texans who wish to protect the values and accomplishments of the State of Texas. We are not a bunch of radical malcontents who hate authority, think President Lincoln operated outside the bounds of the US Constitution, or wish to seek revenge on the Union. As a matter of fact, we think the Union is a pretty good place to be. We believe the Union, over the last 220+ years, has been the greatest undertaking of humankind in the world’s history.
Our concern is for our future. We believe that the current state of our Union is one that could be harmful to the fortunes, lifestyles, and values that exist in the State of Texas….
Or, we’re crazy, but we’re not OLD crazy. We’re NEW crazy. (With that fake rationality that only the true loon or Southern lawyer/evangelist can attain and exhibit, effortlessly.)
You know, like with divorce: when the term starts being bandied about, the reality tends to follow soon after.

WAKE UP! (Else the next scent you smell may be gunpowder smoke.)
“Oh, it’s just those funny, funny Brownshirts doing that strange march of theuirs,” Mrs. Frank says. “Let’s go get some Kreplach soup and then we’ll go to the Synagogue, OK, Anne?”
Several states are in all but open rebellion. (Arizona is not mentioned, but it’s all but at WAR with the Federal government.)
GOP governors resisting Obama health care law
July 2, 2012[...]
Republican governors in Florida, Louisiana and South Carolina already are refusing to expand Medicaid or create the insurance exchange …
Worse, they’re being aided and abetted by sore losers in Congress (ibid.):

A trio of congressional lawmakers on Monday wrote to all 50 governors, urging them not to create the state-run health insurance exchanges that the law requires.
“Now that we know the courts will not save us from this harmful and unsustainable law, we urge all governors to join our fight for full repeal by stopping its implementation,” Sen. Jim DeMint, R-S.C., said in the letter signed by Reps. Michele Bachmann, of Minnesota, and Jim Jordan, of Ohio.
And take a gander at this:
Pete Kasperowicz / The Hill: House to prohibit IRS from implementing healthcare law — The House as early as next week will pass legislation prohibiting the IRS from receiving any money from the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) to implement the 2010 healthcare reform law. — Passage of the financial …

Somehow, now, the ONLY racists are Black …
If you can’t win fair and square, cheat. (Consider the voter disenfranchisement laws being passed willy-nilly, with Pennsylvania joining the club last week). What does it say about Republicans that they truly believe if the American people really got out and voted, they’d LOSE?
I could go on a lot further, but there are a wealth of examples. I don’t need to gild the lily.

You have to understand that democracy CAN ONLY exist if we agree to abide by the results of elections. That means fair elections held in the states and across the nation, but it ALSO means votes taken in Congress and the Supreme Court.
On ALL THREE levels, the Health Care law has PASSED. Got it? It wasn’t born in Kenya, it isn’t “unconstitutional” and we AGREE — as we “agreed” that Bush the Usurper got to move into the White House. What would have happened had Gore refused to accept the election’s result? If Democratic congresscritters had vowed to DENY Bush a single vote, filibustered every judge, every bill, every single notion that Bush the Usurper had?
Why, the traitors would have screamed bloody murder.

Secesh poster boy, Rand Pallbearer
And I’d have supported them in that, no matter how disgusting I find their ideas and legislation.
Because, it ONLY works if we accept the results of fair elections.
But the traitors have NOT accepted the election of 2008 (and spent millions to keep Al Franken from being seated, openly hoped for Robert Byrd to die, gloated when Ted Kennedy died, and denied the Democrats the supermajority in the Senate that they had fairly won. Have blocked as much legislation as possible via a record number of filibusters; have kept the cabinet from being staffed, have blocked administration appointments, have blocked judicial appointments WHOLESALE — to the point that many judges have written op-eds pleading that the entire federal bench is in peril from too many cases clogging too few judges’ dockets.
It has been slow secession. And now, the line has been clearly crossed.

When members of Congress openly attempt to overturn congressional legislation by hook and by crook, it’s more than being sore losers. It OUGHT to disqualify them from sitting IN Congress. It is an act of personal and institutional treason. And if any competent authority found that they should be hanged for it, I would do my level best to get front row seat tickets.
Worse, the news media have been treasonous in acting like this isn’t a problem, is just a minor kerfuffle, etcetera.
No: it’s treason, and if somebody doesn’t start screaming for these bastards to cease and desist, to bring the full opprobrium of ostracism and popular opinion, I promise you there will be blood. It’s already almost inevitable. This hyperthyroid rhetoric has the wingnuts with guns hopped up like crackheads who just found a kilo that fell off a truck. The REAL gun nuts — the NRA — are insanely convinced that they’re “coming for our guns,” and are on a hair-trigger (pun intended) already.

So what are we to do?
First: recognize that this isn’t JUST politics, or that “both parties are the same” or whatever other dumbass notion that you have in place of actual thought and understand that this is a CLEAR AND PRESENT DANGER to our entire way of life.
This week we’ve already reaped the rewards of a decade of overtly, explicitly and viciously denying that global warming even exists.
The next harvest is going to be your son or daughter or brother or relative coming home to you in a pine box.
And that flag they hand you won’t mean a goddam thing.
THIS IS SECESSION PURE AND SIMPLE.

Believe me, you don’t want to see the equivalent on the news
What are YOU going to do about it?
Sit in front of your big-screen TV and suck your thumb?
Or get out and start screaming that it has to stop.
If the latter, there’s a chance that we can right the capsizing ship of state.

If not, I hope you know how to use a gun.
Or don’t mind an early shuffling off of your mortal coil.
Because the serpents are coiling to strike. And this nearly the last time that mere words and votes will have any effect on the monster that rises from the Southern Crypt.
No secession.
Here’s your thought for the day:
Note, all of his liner notes “information” is WRONG
This has moved in boiling frog manner from unacceptable incivility and crypto-racism (by their fruits ye shall know them) to outright, blatant Secessionist treason.
(Which caused the LAST Civil War, you might recall.)
Please wake up.
Or sleep forever under the cold, cold clay.

Dead Americans at Antietam
Imagine one was your son, or father and ask
yourself WHY? Who would be this insane?
Your choice.
Courage.
UPDATE: Here’s more Secession ‘fun’:
Elise Viebeck / The Hill: Fifteen governors reject or leaning against expanded Medicaid program — At least 15 governors have indicated they will not participate in the expansion of Medicaid under the healthcare law, striking a blow to President Obama’s promise of broader insurance coverage.
And more Southern Republican ‘fun’
Scott Keyes / ThinkProgress: Rep. Joe Walsh Blasts Double Amputee’s Military Service, Says She’s Not A ‘True Hero’ — GOP Rep. Joe Walsh (left) and his Democratic opponent Tammy Duckworth (right) — Though he never joined the military himself, Rep. Joe Walsh (R-IL) disparaged his Democratic opponent’s military service …
NewsMax.com: Rasmussen: Conservative Anger Against Obamacare Hitting ‘Stratospheric Levels’ — Conservative interest in the presidential election hit “stratospheric levels” following last week’s Supreme Court ruling upholding Obamacare, noted pollster and author Scott Rasmussen tells Newsmax.TV.

Wildfire Tests Police Force In Colorado Anti-Tax Movement’s Home
By Amanda J. Crawford – Jul 2, 2012 8:14 AM PTAs Colorado Springs battles a rash of burglaries after a wildfire that still licks at its boundaries, it does so with fewer police and firefighters.
A police officer directs hundreds of residents of the Mountain Shadows neighborhood, which was heavily damaged by the Waldo Canyon fire, in Colorado Springs. The city where the Waldo Canyon fire destroyed 346 homes and forced more than 34,000 residents to evacuate turned off one-third of its streetlights two years ago, halted park maintenance and cut services to close a $28 million budget gap after sales-tax revenue plummeted and voters rejected a property-tax increase…
This is his vorpal sword’s 1,400th post.

Damn Hart I have been saying the same thing for months now and most people look at me like I’m insane. But you called it correctly. Every single congressperson actively fighting against the AMERICAN people should be arrested for treason. The major problem we have now is that the treasonous critters are not confined to the south, but in every state and city in the nation. Oh, how I fear for us all. Thank you for your blog!!!
Thank you. I’ve been charting the slow rise of the boiling frog water for about 20 years now (see “The Rush-ians are Coming, The Rush-ians are Coming” contained within this catalog of related posts) and people have been staring like they’re mentally measuring me for a straight-jacket for an equal amount of time.
We have moved from typical ignorance about this to willful ignorance. Then, comes the shock, the selfsame people will scream: HOW COME NOBODY WARNED US?
And I agree. The entire society, all geographic areas, is mixed Hatfields and McCoys and the “regional” concept is meaningless. Which is why this may be our last chance to shout this stuff down before the shooting starts. If we scream: YOU HAVE TO ABIDE BY ELECTIONS! and THE CONSTITUTION DEMANDS COOPERATION! oh, and EVERYBODY OVER 18 SHOULD HAVE THE RIGHT TO VOTE! it MIGHT actually have an effect. But continuing to ignore this madness can only be deadly to our families, our nation and, perhaps, ourselves.
In 2000, most people thought i was a chicken little for pointing out how racist the Republican party had become – I was making statements that the party had become the new face of the KKK and everyone thought I was a loon. And 10 years on, those same people are beginning to see what I saw.
What most people miss is how the KKK was initially preached from the pulpit to keep it out of the reach of the government (separation of church and state how they love it when it works for them….)
I do fear for my country and my people. It’s a scary time!
You’re not alone in that assessment, nor in the contemptuous laughter it provoked.
But, from the moment that Ronald Reagan announced his candidacy at the Philadelphia, Mississippi picnic (a couple of miles from where the three civil rights workers were executed in Mississippi in the 1960s), the GOP has openly and covertly courted the racist vote.
Now, it’s too blatant to ignore and too “impolite” for respectable folk to bring up in public conversation.
A strange and toxic form of polity.
