The intersection between advertising, show business and politics is now complete: in an evening utterly devoid of facts, the talking wounded of the dancing eyebrows set were reduced to the station of theatrical reviewers.

Whether this is a higher or lower station than they had occupied as “political pundits” I shall leave to the analysis and conclusions of the reader.

I only say this because “analysis” and rational “conclusion” have been categories utterly lacking in this damned, doomed convention of the preterites, those self-anointed and self-deluded who secretly and openly call themselves the elect.

As I write this, the front page of Memeorandum is dominated by postings decrying the lies and utter disconnect from fact that were evidenced last night at that Black Mass referred to as the “Republican National Convention.”

It sure was …

As Ron Paul supporters know, the fiction that the RNC represents the governing body of the GOP, managed between quadrennial get-togethers by the Republican National Committee as a subordinate entity has become as quaint a notion as aether, perpetual motion machines or spontaneous generation. You’re going to read and hear a lot about Paul Ryan’s speech on Wednesday night.  And I imagine most of it will be about how Ryan’s speech played—with the party loyalists in Tampa, with the television viewers across the country …

And, sadly, he’s entirely correct. Our somnolent “watchdogs” of the media have become as predictable as the tides, but infinitely more manipulable. They might as well call the Republican National Convention by its more accurate name:

The short summary runs like this: Mike Huckabee, who makes his pseudo-bigotry about the “sanctity of life” the cornerstone of his religio-political fever dreams stood on the stage consciously mimicking Ronald Reagan’s mannerisms and pauses, all the while giving cover to Mitt the Mormon (pretending that heresy doesn’t matter if you’re white, but if you’re a black “evangelical” — as he characterized the President — then religious similarities don’t matter) by basing his claim on religious intolerance on the part of the President by blocking Catholic “conscience” and “religious practice”  — a canard on a level of the South’s holy grail of “states’ rights” as a cover for the practice of racial enslavement and involuntary servitude.

Facts? FACTS?!?!  We don’ no steenking facts!

Yes, Vagina, there is no Sanity Clause. (And no, they have yes bananas.)

Because “religious tolerance” in this case consists entirely of making every effort to legally enslave every fertile womb in the land to the service of the Holy Sperm.

Thus, rape is religious tolerance, just as the “freedom” of states’ rights was the freedom to hold humans in perpetual slavery WITHOUT freedom.

The Prince of Lies didn’t get his name for nothing, and if you believe my statement about “Black Mass” hyperbolic, then you also believe in the literal tooth fairy. Alas.

Susana Martinez — whose largest single donation in her tea party run for New Mexico governor in 2010 was NOT REMOTELY NEW MEXICAN Foster Friess’ six figure check — bragged about her .457 magnum and how she’d been a Democrat, but now was a Republican after being recruited over a free lunch.

She’d been a Democrat and her parents before her, but, in the leitmotif of the evening, having moved into the upper tax brackets, suddenly empathized with the vicious rich rather than the impoverished rabble from which she had risen.

Which brings us to the speech that’s getting all the praise, without once acknowledging that eloquence from the self-deluded is STILL delusion, and that John Adams was right when he said — as the only principled lawyer in the Commonwealth (whose Constitution he would later draft and which is still in effect) who would defend the British soldiers accused in the Boston Massacre — “Facts are stubborn things.”

You wouldn’t have known that from the Black Mass called the RNC last night, however.

Which brings us to Condoleeeeeeeeezza Rice and her “non partisan” speech. Praised to the rafters by the bloviating heads of teevee talk, they utterly fail to note that it was an ENTIRELY partisan speech: it was meant to boost the Party of One: Condie.

Thank you to Andrea Mitchell of NBC News, who interviewed Rice as the lights were being shut off, for outing the monstrous egotism of Ms. Rice, who had the utter gall to badmouth the President for the current status of Iraq without ever once noticing her complicity in a “war of aggression.”

And if you don’t know what “war of aggression” is, check out the Nuremberg Trials (or, more likely, just watch “Judgment at Nuremberg” with Spencer Tracy, Burt Lancaster and a very young William Shatner, because, as Martin Scorsese maintains, watching lots of movies is JUST LIKE being a literate, well-read and cultured human being).

We HUNG Nazis for doing what Condi did, and she ought to be smart enough to keep her mouth shut.

But that leitmotif held truest in Rice: those who are “self made” almost invariably show contempt for those who aren’t as successful, as though mere “success” or “prominence” were the exact same thing as living a moral, ethical and praiseworthy life. Al Capone seemed to think so, too. (And was pretty much in agreement with Mitt Romney on taxes, now that I think of it.)

Refusing to accept any blame for Nine Eleven — as do all Bushies, even though it happened on THEIR watch, after they were clearly warned and CHOSE to ignore the warnings — she lamely told Ms. Mitchell that Iraq was better off because at least they got Saddam Hussein out of there.

Oh, and TOOK CREDIT for the killing of Osama bin Laden, because, as she rationalized, the mechanisms were “put in place” by “us” after Nine-Eleven, so “it’s really a victory for two administrations.”

There is no false modesty as utterly disgusting as the false modesty that implicitly claims credit for something that one had utterly failed to do, while all the while only mentioning one’s own greatness by indirection and  implication. Who would those TWO Administrations be? Obama’s and George W. Bush’s. And who was one of the top players in the active planning and promotion of the murder of hundreds of thousands of innocent civilians?

(Which Chris Matthews WOULD NOT ALLOW David Corn to say on MSNBC, by talking over the top of him and changing the subject in a fit of embarrassment that the Emperor might be seen as naked, rather than the media whore blather that it was all a minor mistake, and hey, Saddam was a BAD GUY.)

We pray devoutly not to be within shrapnel range when THAT Karmic time bomb goes off.

After bragging that she’d risen from a segregated South, Ms. Rice then blithely ignored the fundamental contradiction of pimping for a party devoted to the principles that segregated that SAME South, and suggested that “education is a civil right,” again, ignoring the plain evidence (as I’ve written of before) that PRIVATE SCHOOLS have made the modern South MORE segregated than it was at the time of Brown v. Board of Education in 1954, which struck down the “separate but equal” segregation of Plessy v. Ferguson.

This is the new “Republican” party of Herr Doktor Karl Goebbels Rove: keep repeating the Big Lie, with utter contempt for the listeners one would govern.

Stupid, silly fools: we have the black woman tell you that vouchers are the key to “civil rights,” when any thinking person knows that it is and always has been the EXACT opposite of civil rights.

We have Eddie Munster claiming (in his “great” speech that “energized” the entire hall of deceit with a “barn-burner”) that Obama was going to wreck Medicare (Rovian “attack their strength” swiftboating).

(I will not comment on the most poisonous and shameless lie of the entire evening, when Paul Ryan claimed by clear implication — even HE couldn’t bring himself to make the insane claim directly — that President Obama was the reason for the USA’s downgraded credit rating from AAA+ to AAA, when he and his political allies  INTENTIONALLY created the “debt ceiling crisis” that precipitated the downgrade AND was cited BY the credit agency doing the downgrading.)

We have Susana Martinez self-loving her Hispanic-ness with the implication that it was only through the Republican Party that she had been able to rise to such power … and the implication that somehow this counterbalanced the vicious hatred that the lily-white Republicans have shown to Hispanics as a GROUP. I got mine, José.

And Mike Huckabee openly embracing the heresy (to any evangelical preacher) of Mormonism, and decrying an “evangelical” for religious intolerance.

And Condoleezza Rice out polishing the turd of the war that bankrupted this nation financially and morally. But a polished turd is still a turd, and you can’t take credit for something you DIDN’T do, while at the same time, refusing to take blame for something that you DID do by outrageous omission.
