The Lying Liars on Polling

Since the polls show that Obama is up on Romney, the bloggers without “all that liberal bias” set us straight, beginning with the Washington Examiner (owned by the same fellow who bought The Weekly Standard and its $2 million per annum red ink well):

Mitt Romney would lead eight in unskewed data from newest CNN/ORC poll

The latest CNN/ORC poll released today shows a wider lead for President Obama than the previous CNN/ORC poll but it is doubly skewed. It massively under-samples independents while it also over-samples Democratic voters. The CNN/Opinion Research Corp. poll official reports Obama at 52 to percent and Mitt Romney at 46 percent. Unskewed, the data reveals a 53 percent to 45 percent lead for Romney.

This new CNN/ORC survey, unlike many other analyzed, not only over-samples Democratic voters, but also massively under-samples independent voters, to produce a result more favorable to Barack Obama…

And the mee-too corpse jumps on this puppy, humping it mercilessly, just like one of those little dogs at that sweet old granny lady’s house goes for your leg.

My favorite, of course, BigFurHat, who says (without the slightest self-awareness of psychosis) Polls are Sh*t — I can make a poll do whatever I want

Which is an open admission that the truth is meaningless to BFH, AND that he/she/it is proud of his/her/its ability to twist any “inconvenient truth” in polling into anything that BFH wants. BFD.

Obama is up by as much as 6 points in the latest polls? Suddenly the Romney campaign faxes news organizations saying it’s “premature” to analyze polls before they … well, reading between the lines … before they say good things about the Mittwit.

This is the same kind of wishful thinking and disregard for facts that got us in the eight-year, budget-busting quagmire in Iraq, come to think of it. If Bushies didn’t like the intelligence they got, they made up the intelligence they liked. And a quarter of a million human deaths (innocents, mostly) and millions of refugees later, some (Cheney) show no signs of ever having “gotten” it, even in the face of 20/20 hindsight. I am not well enough versed in abnormal psychology to diagnose the madness here, but madness it surely is.

Goya — the sleep of reason breeds monsters

But you gotta give them this:  When they don’t like the facts they get, they make up the facts they like.

And so, in Topsyturvyland, Mittens is not only NOT down by 6, he’s UP by 8!!!!

Good grief.

I can now confidently report that psychosis is equal to a fourteen point swing in the polls.

Let us sing, instead, the lyrics that W.S. Gilbert (of Gilbert and Sullivan fame) has penned for us

The other night, from cares exempt,
I slept—and what d’you think I dreamt?
I dreamt that somehow I had come
To dwell in Topsy-Turveydom!—
Where vice is virtue—virtue, vice:
Where nice is nasty—nasty, nice:
Where right is wrong and wrong is right—
Where white is black and black is white.

Courage.

Hart, you, as usual, are my hero! Though I know it seems like you are twisting alone in the wind, you are definitely not! Those of us, with eyes to see and ears to hear, are ever so grateful for your words and perspicacity!

If Obama makes it through this election safe and sound, and the GOP were unable to BUY this election, I will smile with relief, but for now these rightwingers just want to make my head explode.

The nut jobs don’t want to let their sheeple in on a little secret….they are in the minority, they always were and always will be. They can’t give them a minute to doubt their choice of republican candidates, they don’t want to lose 1 vote, because with the voter suppression scheme in full swing, they just might steal this election. Again.

    • I’m not too concerned about the voter suppression any longer, sid but the money worries me. In a world where everything has a price tag – it worries me a lot. Hart says ‘courage’ – to that I would add – vigilance!

Dianne, consider this..90% of the candidates that won house and senate seats were the people that spent the MOST MONEY. 90%. I live in Florida and I am just about ready to throw my tv out the window now. It’s going to be like living in a horror movie in the weeks before the election.

        • I am a Georgian with Florida relations…I love Florida and it hurts me to see what Republicans have done to that beautiful state…courage would certainly be the correct word for you. I cannot believe we are witnessing the Selling of America…right before our eyes.

  4. Fabulous, as usual. Sharing like mad. Courage.
