Woodward’s Twisted Panties Report

If it wasn’t so predictable, it would be funny. It’s amusing, of course, since the “victim” is Bob Woodward, that famous “Watergate” journalist whose great story slips further and further into the mists of history, even as his work becomes ever more pedestrian. Woodward claimed on CNN that he had been threatened by the White House.

And the Right Wingnuts naturally jumped to every conclusion that they always jump to. Because facts don’t seem to matter the way they once did.

But what was the basis of this Wingnuttia, focused on ONE word? (“Regret.”) Continue reading

Changin’ His Black Robes to White

scalia kagan

Antonin Scalia feels safe enough to drop the mask:

Scalia: Voting Rights Act Is ‘Perpetuation Of Racial Entitlement’

WASHINGTON, DC — There were audible gasps in the Supreme Court’s lawyer’s lounge, where audio of the oral argument is pumped in for members of the Supreme Court bar, when Justice Antonin Scalia offered his assessment of a key provision of the Voting Rights Act.

And what, pray tell, was that? Watch Scalia’s mental processes at work, 2+2=5, unanimous is suspicious since it CAN’T be sincere, up is down and a Judge’s black robes are actually a white ones (minus, perhaps, a hood): Continue reading

Foster’s Money Buys Face Time with Hookers

Meet the  Dominionist “Christian” who’s funding this: Foster Friess

The Daily Caller strikes again. While their buddies and fellow travelers at Breitbart attempt to destroy Chuck Hagel with ginned up stories, Tucker Carlson’s little Foster “Jesus is my CEO” Friess financed virtual dirt machine has managed to find a hooker who says (anonymously) that she has had sex with Bob Menendez (Democratic Senator from New Jersey) and LOTS of Washington DC politicians, many of whom are now dead. (I kid you not.) Then the supposedly long-prostrate prostitute deigns to MORALIZE about it all:

Referring to allegations that Menendez had sex with prostitutes in the Dominican Republic who were as young as 16, she said it was “uncomfortable to think that a hobbyist [sic] would take that road that he took, knowing he could have all the sex he wants” with women over the age of 18….

Since it’s obvious, from context, that the Daily Caller assholes ASKED A WHORE FOR HER MORAL ASSAY ON A SITTING UNITED STATES SENATOR (to further Tucker Carlson and former Cheney aide and Friess and Cheney’s neighbor in Millionaire Acres in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, Neal Patel’s agenda of personal destruction of political enemies) I will give you a moment to burst into gales of laughter at the sheer Holy Joe hypocrisy of this gutter ‘journalism.’

Our old ‘Friend’ Michael Goldfarb Busted by NY Times

Check out the New York Times’ exposé on Michael Goldfarb, whom I have covered and exposed, starting in 2007.

Got that?

Michael Goldfarb Gleeful Provocateur at Intersection of Many Worlds
Jim Rutenberg / New York Times

At 11:42 a.m. on Feb. 14, a conservative online magazine called The Washington Free Beacon posted a dispatch about a speech Chuck Hagel gave in 2007 in which it said he called the State Department “an adjunct to the Israeli foreign minister’s office.” ….

So … here’s a few of my exposés: Continue reading

Eulogy, Mac McFadden 1946-2012

Note: I have not blogged for a couple of days, because I was writing this. Now that the eulogy has been spoken, I might as well publish it. Back to work on Monday. Enjoy your Oscars®.

Here’s a story about an atheist and a cross.  But it isn’t quite what you might imagine.

Eulogy, Mac McFadden – Memorial Service 23 Feb 2013

We are least equipped to express those things we most want to express. I am a writer and have been for nearly forty years, and yet, now that I have something that is desperately important to communicate to you, I know most painfully that I cannot begin to accomplish the task. Continue reading

Our Idiot Media, Again …

AndrewBreitbartpostmortemHope you’re enjoying Hell, Andy

[WARNING: Bad words ahead. If they make you cry, stop reading now.]

I’m not saying it’s a slow news day, but Memeorandum is dominated by the kind of mindless navel-gazing that slow news days and new polls inevitably produce. (Kind of like speculating on the 2016 election: it’s not news or meaningful, but it keeps them from having to do their FUCKING jobs!)

Which is a perfect entrée into the Press Corpse and the rotting of the Fourth Estate. Because, lost in yesterday’s news dump was an inadvertent confession of the sleazy, incestuous manner in which modern media works (any resemblance to the Junior High School Girls’ Bathroom is purely coincidental). Let’s begin with the weasels of Breitbart who started the now-refuted rumor of Chuck Hagel speaking to or taking money from “Friends of Hamas” [emphasis added]: Continue reading

Maddow’s ‘Hubris’ and Bush’s Hubris

A long-time reader reminded me that I was going to watch Rachel Maddow’s documentary “Hubris [{long subtitle]” based on the eponymous book David Corn and Michael Isikoff, and wondered what I’d think.

Little Green Footballs has it neatly segmented to watch from the MSNBC feed.

Long-time readers might also note that I’ve been writing about this since before I ever blogged.  Continue reading

Tiger Beat on the Potomac Strikes Agin (sic)

tiger beat-bobby sherman

I wish I’d come up with that appellation, but the indispensable Charles Pierce of Esquire must be credited. However, I seriously doubt that he has taken a dim view of the non-venerable gossip rag for any longer than have I. Since their inception, Politico have focused on Washington gossip, and making sure their crappy “journalists” get as much face time as possible in the talking head segments of network and cable news.

You know, gaining credibility the way the astroturf  Tea Party Express did when CNN sent a bus to TOUR with them? “Credibility by guilty association” we might call it. Listen to Tiger Beat on the Potomac‘s latest “LOOK AT ME!” fake journalism [emphasis added]:

Obama, the puppet master
By JIM VANDEHEI and MIKE ALLEN | 2/18/13 10:29 PM EST

President Barack Obama is a master at limiting, shaping and manipulating media coverage of himself and his White House.

Not for the reason that conservatives suspect: namely, that a liberal press willingly and eagerly allows itself to get manipulated. Instead, the mastery mostly flows from a White House that has taken old tricks for shaping coverage (staged leaks, friendly interviews) and put them on steroids using new ones (social media, content creation, precision targeting). And it’s an equal opportunity strategy: Media across the ideological spectrum are left scrambling for access.

Fire up the Waaaaahmbulance. Ah, that Big Brother Communist Kenyan Muslim interloper is JUST TOO SMART FOR US NEWSIES!!!! (Must be the antiChrist.) It continues, pretentiously: Continue reading

He Really IS a Cranky Old Coot

John McCrankypants was on the Sunday shows — evidently substituting for his platonic lover Lindsey Grahan (R, Batshit Crazy, South Carolina, if that’s not redundant) — and decided to hand Al Qaeda another freebie, freaking out that FOUR AMERICANS ARE DEAD! and DON’T YOU CARE?

gregory-mccain meet the press

Yeah, pal, easily 100,000 Iraqis are dead (and, since Iraqis COULD become Americans, they are, by GOP Anti-Abortion Logick ACTUAL POTENTIAL AMERICANS, and, therefore, actual AMERICANS), and you don’t give a crap about that*.   Listen: Continue reading

The Filibuster That Wasn’t There

Yesterday, upon the stair,
I met a man who wasn’t there
He wasn’t there again today
I wish, I wish he’d go away…

triangle of fubar

The legendary Triangle of FUBAR

The Senate Republicans, fresh from promising, on their honor, that they wouldn’t engage in any more filibuster abuse yesterday extended their abuse record and then had the gall to claim that they weren’t doing what they were doing.

Senate Republicans filibuster Hagel nomination
Paul Kane / Washington Post

Senate Republicans delivered a sharp rebuke to President Obama on Thursday when they began a filibuster of Chuck Hagel’s nomination as secretary of defense.

The confirmation process stalled Thursday when GOP senators deprived Hagel of the 60 votes needed to move it to its final stages. Republicans said they were seeking a delay so they could look more closely at the nominee. …

Republicans denied that their actions constituted a filibuster because they expect Hagel to be confirmed, and they insisted they will allow a simple-majority vote on the nomination later this month….

Oh, well then, even though it looks like a filibuster, smells like a filibuster and quacks like a filibuster, it’s NOT a filibuster because we expect that it will fail.

Oh. Dear. Ghod. Continue reading

The Heart’s Pointed Desire

The pedigree of Valentine’s Day is, appropriately, obscure. We know Cupid’s relation to his Mother, Venus.  Or, as Wikipedia appropriately garbles it:

In classical mythology, Cupid (Latin Cupido, meaning “desire”) is the god of desire, erotic love, and affection. He is often portrayed as the son of the love goddess Venus, and is known in Latin also as Amor (“Love”). His Greek counterpart is Eros.

Er … Amor is DIFFERENT from Eros. Amorous is ofttimes confused with erotic, but not so much anymore, ever since sexuality was rediscovered after the Victorian Era, lying in a ditch outside of Manchester, England by an itinerate Leftenant named Roscoe Boswell, who later figured prominently in nothing much else.

The Greek conception of love held philosophical sway in the Classical world: eros, amor, agape.  Or, sexual desire (Cupid), romantic love (Mon amour, Mi amoré, etc. the pattern is repeated throughout the Romance languages–pun intended and not actually a pun), and “spiritual” love, often called “Platonic” love.  The notion of “agape” is well preserved in fundamentalist and charismatic Christianity, while amor and eros haven’t exactly vanished from the scene. Coverage Even Worse Than Rubio Speech

Rubio, Superstar … do you think you’re what they say you are?

Here is the Atlas atop Memeorandum this morning:

Marco Rubio’s drinking problem
Katie Glueck / Politico

Twitter exploded during Sen. Marco Rubio’s Republican response to the State of the Union, as the Florida senator appeared a little sweaty and dry-mouthed at mid-speech, taking an awkward swig from a bottle of water that had been placed off-camera…

Ah, Charles Pierce’s Tiger Beat on the Atlantic nickname for Politico springs to mind. Except that Tiger Beat has higher journalistic standards than this. Continue reading

Marco Rubio goes on warpath against Women, ‘Indians’

A Marco Rubio ‘Indian’

Statement on my Vote Against the Violence Against Women Act

Fighting for Florida*
Feb 12 2013

Statement on my Vote Against the Violence Against Women Act
I believe we should have re-authorized the existing Violence Against Women Act that has helped reduce the annual incidence of domestic violence by more than 50 percent, among other successes. I also continue supporting the work being done at the federal, state and local levels to combat domestic violence, sexual assault, dating violence, and stalking. I specifically support such ideas as …

[* this is the title of Rubio's official paid-for-by-taxpayers Senate blog, evidently. Used to be, that stuff was reserved for campaign pages.]

Blah blah blah.

Frankly, were I to give an important political speech, I wouldn’t preface it by pissing off minorities Rubio DOESN’T seem to give a crap about, like, er WOMEN and gays and Native Americans. What? Yeah. Native Americans, or probably in Rubio’s argot, “injuns.” Whoops! Sorry: “Indians.” Unquote. Continue reading
