The Bonfire of the Hannitys

The Rightie PantieTwistoSphere™ is a-twitter with the latest shooting. Because, when shootings don’t fit their political agenda, they blame violent video games and crazy people. BUT …

Southern Poverty Law Center website triggered FRC shooting
Paul Bedard / Washington Examiner

The Family Research Council shooter, who pleaded guilty today to a terrorism charge, picked his target off a “hate map” on the website of the ultra-liberal Southern Poverty Law Center which is upset with the conservative group’s opposition to gay rights.

Floyd Lee Corkins II pleaded guilty to three charges including a charge of committing an act of terrorism related to the August 15, 2012 injuring of FRC’s guard. He told the FBI that he wanted to kill anti-gay targets and went to the law center’s website for ideas …

First, I HATE pleaded. Occam’s Razor still indicates “pled” as in “fled” and not “pleaded” as in “fleeded.” It is difficult to pronounce, sounds clunky and is a chancre on the soft white underbelly of modern journalistic practice. However, I hear it all the time, certainly more often than “statist,” but less often than “nanny state.”

Secondly, this a purely political attack, humping the corpses of the unhonored dead to get even with the Southern Poverty Law Center. Those evil people, tryin’ to stop hate crimes and hate groups from throwing molotov cocktails into the back of Greyhound buses (as you might have seen on Freedom Riders on PBS Tuesday.)

And left carefully UNstated in all of this is that Floyd Lee Corkins II is Black. (Hell he’s even wearing a HOODIE.)

And gay? … CNN reports:

Corkins told Judge Richard Roberts that he hoped to intimidate gay rights opponents.

The shooting came amid intense debate over remarks against gay marriage by an executive with the Atlanta-based Chick-fil-A restaurant chain and the company’s support for groups considered hostile to gay rights.

No. It’s the famous anti-KKK organization being targeted by the TwistoSphere (all carefully cross-linked by the Big Dogs to drive it to the top of the page):

Gee, it’s amazing that NewsBusters (Media Research Center, Brent Bozell), (dead Breitbart), The Daily Caller (Tucker Carlson, funded by Foster Friess), Pajamas Media, Hot Air, et al, would fail to notice the blackness or the possible gayness of the Man Who Pled and focus exclusively on trying to tie the Southern Poverty Research Center to a hate crime.

[Or, perhaps they're propagandizing for Family Research Council (James Dobson). CNN:

The Southern Poverty Law Center has listed the Family Research Council as a hate group since 2010, pointing to what it describes as its anti-gay propaganda and legislative agenda.

On his nightly radio show on Wednesday, Family Research Council President Tony Perkins mentioned the plea deal and accused the Southern Poverty Law Center of playing a role in the shooting by inciting hatred and violence rather than fighting it -- a claim he has repeatedly made since the shooting.

"The Southern Poverty Law Center is dangerous. They are inciting hatred, and in this case a clear connection to violence," he said on the radio broadcast. "They need to be held accountable, and they need to be stopped before people are killed because of their reckless labeling and advocacy for homosexuality and their anti-Christian stance."]

And I’m not backing down from that characterization: it was a crime of hatred, spawned by the very haters that a very angry man was trying to get “even” with.

This didn’t used to be “fantasy”

Hate begets hate. And how apt that the haters JUMP on this hate crime to try and smear the SPLC with hate.

The only problem is that they continue to throw gasoline on our Bonfire of the Hannitys. How long before the next Oklahoma City? This kind of crap all but ensures it. And the tragedy is that, even now, were we to back away there is yet a chance that we will not burn d0wn the house while fighting over who gets to light the birthday cake candles.

Fat chance. And, inexorably, America once moved from John Brown raiding the armory to the cadets of The Cidatel firing on Fort Sumpter’s resupply ship.

A history whose sesquicentennial we remember right now.

Racists, bigots and haters failing to notice a killer is black and/or gay?

I can’t think of any way that a sane person could consider the SPLC as a hate group. The Buddha teaches that it is impossible for hatred to wipe out hatred, hating the haters does nothing. But hating those who fight hatred is downright evil.

    • Well, we ARE talking about James Dobson’s lunatic “sect” which now occupies Colorado Springs, Colorado (in the same sense as “Occupy Wall Street” but considerably more investment in real estate and facilities), having started in Los Angeles with the never-ordained Dobson turning his child psychology practice into a fundamentalist cult with too much political clout for any other Christian denomination to question their bona fides.

SPLC classified them as a “hate group” and they’ve responded by proving SPLC correct. Particularly Satanic form of argument for a “christian” cult, don’t cha think?

  2. Yeah, Hart. I figured you’d do that. Like most bloggers. You don’t like being challenged. Typical.

    • My comments policy is simple: if you wouldn’t say it to my face in my living room, don’t say it here. So consider this a virtual boot in the ass to send you and your self-righteous idiocy on your drunken way back to your virtual “home.”

I’ve read your blog: by pretending to be Mercutio, screaming “a plague on both your houses,” you set yourself up as arbiter to all and sundry, having no actual position to defend. And yet, your opinions are ignorant, ill-informed and, seemingly, the product of an immense internal anger having nothing to do with the running of a world you rarely seem to have inhabited. Not a lot of meat on your philosophical bones.
