Ted Cruz yaks on the “Tea Party Express”*
(* which I’ve covered at length elsewhere)
The newspapers, ever mired in cliché and the need to “balance” coverage of sanity and insanity, refer to Ted Cruz’ bluster on the Senate floor as a “filibuster,” which it is NOT.
I wonder if the Tea Party takes its own advice?
Cruz Reads Dr. Seuss in All-Night Attack on Obamacare
Arlette Saenz / ABC News
Sen. Ted Cruz’s all-night talk-a-thon on the need to defund Obamacare has finally ended, clocking in at 21 hours and 19 minutes.
After starting at 2:41 p.m. Tuesday, Cruz wrapped up at noon today when the Senate day adjourned. Reid had offered to allow the Texas Republican senator to continue speaking until 1 p.m., but Cruz declined the offer because he wanted to be granted unlimited time to speak.
“Although I am weary, there is still at least strength in my legs to stand a little longer,” Cruz said.
Cruz pulled the all-nighter in the U.S. Senate as he advocated for the defunding of Obamacare into the wee hours of the morning…
He read from Green Eggs and Ham, by Dr. Seuss, at one point. Allow me to paraphrase:
I do not like them with dumb jokes, I do not like them backed by Kochs;
I do not like them Uncle Sam, I do not care for pompous hams.
It was not a filibuster, which is a delaying tactic to keep a bill from coming to the floor. It was not even a modern filibuster, which is a bastard legislative tactic adopted in the nineties giving legitimacy to the older “filibuster” of the Senate, which never could finally work, unless it ran out the waning hours of a legislative session.
It was always a quixotic temper tantrum, last used “legitimately” in the speaking sense by the segregationist senators, specifically Strom Thurmond, for more than 24 hours in 1957, and then again in attempting to block the Voting Rights act and other Civil Rights reforms of the mid-1960s.
Projecting their own racism on the objects OF that racism
And yet, in a very precise manner, it is. But not in the manner you’d think. Consider what a “filibuster” actually IS (Wikipedia):
A filibuster or freebooter is someone who engages in an unauthorized military expedition into a foreign country to foment or support a revolution. The term is usually used to describe United States citizens who attempted to foment insurrections in Latin America in the mid-19th century, but is also applicable in the modern day.
Filibusters are irregular soldiers who act without authority from their own government, and are generally motivated by financial gain, political ideology, or the thrill of adventure. The freewheeling actions of the filibusters of the 1850s led to the name being applied figuratively to the political act of filibustering in the United States Congress ….
Let’s take it just a bit further:
The English term “filibuster” derives from the Spanish filibustero, itself deriving originally from the Dutch vrijbuiter, “privateer, pirate, robber” (also the root of English “freebooter”). The Spanish form entered the English language in the 1850s, as applied to military adventurers from the United States then operating in Central America and the Spanish West Indies.…
The term filibuster was revived in the mid 19th century to describe the actions of adventurers who tried to take control of various Caribbean, Mexican, and Central-American territories by force of arms….
Several Americans were involved in freelance military schemes, including William Blount (West Florida), Augustus W. Magee (Texas), George Mathews (East Florida), George Rogers Clark (Louisiana and Mississippi), William S. Smith (Venezuela), Ira Allen (Canada), William Walker, (Mexico and Nicaragua), William A. Chanler (Cuba and Venezuela), and James Long (Texas). Gregor MacGregor was a Scottish filibuster in Florida, Central and South America….
And that describes Ted Cruz to a “t.”
And, here’s what the slimeballs at “ABC News” write in a related post:
ABC News is curating a list of Sen. Cruz’s most memorable lines:
(Find it on your own. I’m not aiding OR abetting irresponsible tabloid reporting.) Attention whore’s greatest moans? Puhleeeeze.
The first phony notion is that it was a Senate “filibuster.” No: it was a long speech. (“CSPAN Reminds Viewers That Cruz’s Overnight Speech Is Not A Filibuster, Catherine Thompson / Talking Points Memo”)
The second absurd notion is that Ted Cruz is a “Republican.”
Some kind of mythic beast
While my brethren and cistern in “media” babble and snigger and claim — as the Gray Lady, the New York Times says — that Cruz “embarrassed” himself, I can only imagine these same boobs writing these same headlines about a fellow from Bavaria and his minority party in Germany in the 1930s.
I am not comparing Ted Cruz to Hitler, of course, but I AM comparing the flaccid German press covering Hitler to the flaccid American press covering Cruz.
He is NOT a Republican. The “Tea Party” caucus of the House and Senate are NOT Republicans, either. They are Koch-flavored (and financed) filibusters.
They are there to take over the GOP and, ultimately, the country.
Not as hilarious as one might think
THAT is the reason that so much opposition research FROM Republicans came across nonplussed Chris Wallace’s desk on Faux Nooz Sundae. The “shock” of the pundits is only matched by their extreme gullibility and insensate non-apperception of Reality™.
The moderate Republicans have realized that cuckoo eggs have been planted in their nest and that changelings have been substituted in place of their own squalling young.

But the news remains stubbornly “color-blind” seeing in only black and white, Republican and Dem0crat.
I cannot say. I have talked about this until I am blue in the face. In the late 1980s, Eric O’Keefe suggested that the Koch machine quit trying to play third party games and infiltrate the party most closely aligned. This they did, choosing the GOP. Their first attempt was the “term limits” movement, which worked hand-in-glove with Newt Gingrich and the House Republicans’ “Contract With America” in 1994, and then split off because they did not know how to work and play well with others.
The Gingrich Steals Another Christmas
They demanded their “Term Limits” plank without ANY changes whatsoever: my way or the highway. Which is a fingerprint that the perceptive reporter would notice in the current “Ted Cruz” defund Obamacare movement. A massive multi-pronged campaign has been passing under the radar, for the RINOs:
Here’s what Howie Rich’s (who ran David Koch’s 1980 VP bid and has remained a confidant ever since) Americans for Limited Government has been spamming the last week:

Call (202) 224-3121 and tell Senate ‘No!’ on cloture on bill that funds Obamacare [subject line]
Sept. 24, 2013
Dear Liberty Activist,
We just got off an urgent phone call with Senators Ted Cruz (R-Tex.) and Mike Lee (R-Utah), and they need your help right now on the defund Obamacare effort.
Cruz and Lee ask that you phone your senators right now and demand that they vote no on cloture …
Get it? They’re running their own coordinated campaign! OUTSIDE the GOP. These are RINOs, but a different kind of RINO altogether. Not squinchy “moderate” RINOs, but real, diseased alien RINOs with their own agenda for destroying the GOP from within and replacing it with Mike Lees and Ted Cruzes.
Which follows weeks of the same sort of twaddle from ALG:
- Ted Cruz teaches Mitch McConnell how to bet in the defund Obamacare poker game (September 25)
- Call (202) 224-3121 and tell Senate ‘No!’ on cloture on bill that funds Obamacare
- Republican leaders need to watch Braveheart
- Senate Republicans actually do have the votes to stop Obamacare
- Urge the Senate to pass the Defund Obamcare continuing resolution!
- If Republicans stand firm, Obamacare is toast
- House presents plan to defund Obamacare, but do they mean it?
- Urge House to pass the continuing resolution that defunds Obamacare!
- Fight like an Australian on Obamacare
- Postpone Obamacare compromise the only plan that might work
- Last chance to defund Obamacare! House votes tomorrow! ( Sept. 11, 2013 Dear Liberty Activist, Click here to urge your Congressman to defeat the continuing …)
Gee. These don’t seem to be “mainstream” Republicans, do they? No: they’re running a coordinated campaign, with Ted Cruz and Mike Lee working in tandem for their Korporate masters, and that “founder” of Tea Parties, Eric Odom, who was working for Eric O’Keefe (former President of Americans for Limited Government until he spun off the “Sam Adams Alliance” before the ALG electoral debacle of 2006, and later hired Odom as ALG’s “social media” maven.
James O’Keefe and Eric O’Keefe at the Sam Adams Alliance “awards”
So, let’s see what Odom has been saying for ‘Grassfire’ — a for-profit political gro4up with a TV studio in Washington D.C. and allegedly headquartered in Iowa:
- Senator Ted Cruz filibusters ALL NIGHT! (Watch) [Sept 25]
- ObamaCare Sound & Fury: Name-Shaming & Blame-Gaming

And where else?
Well, we have Americans for Prosperity and the Tea Party Types. Googling “defund Obamacare” not only returns hits from them, but the organized astroturf overwhelms the google citations of actual news stories, which ought to tell y0u something about the traffic involved:

It’s a filibuster, all right, although, born in Canada, that “United States citizens” part seems a wee bit dodgy.
